Accelerated Route to Member Program


The Accelerated Route to Member Program is designed for practitioners with a fair knowledge of basic legal principles and dispute resolution mechanisms. The course introduces concepts and principles of international commercial arbitration practice and is sufficient to qualify for the level of Member in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Who Should Attend? 
You are a five-year qualified lawyer. You wish to learn more about arbitration and its benefits to users.  You are considering further study to become a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Chartered Arbitrator.  You wish to become a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

Comparison of Dispute Resolution Procedures, UNCITRAL, Powers and Jurisdiction of the Arbitrator, Preliminary Meetings, Costs and Interest, Procedure at the Hearing, Essentials of an Award

Assessment
Continual assessment throughout the workshop, written submittals and award writing exam.  Post Course Examination limited to Member level only.

Assessment Result
Successfully completing the course and course work allows the delegate to apply for entry to CIArb at the grade of Member. Upon admission at Member grade, allows the use of the designation MCIArb. For full details of route to Member, please visit the CIArb website at www.CIArb.org. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Q - What will happen in the oral assessment sessions? 

A- You will be in small groups with an assessor. You will be given a case study of a commercial contract and the events which lead to a dispute between a number of parties.  During the assessment workshops, various situations or problems which might arise during arbitration will be put to you and you will discuss how you would deal with them. There is also a written exercise and the opportunity for you to take part in role play.

Q- What grade of membership will I be entitled to?

A- If you complete the oral and written assessments for the Accelerated Route to Member program, but do not pass, and are not already a member, you will be entitled to apply for Associate membership.  If you are successful in the oral and written assessments you will be able to apply for Member grade.

Timing and Scheduling

The workshops will commence at 9:00 AM on Friday, May 5, 2017 and conclude at 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 6, 2017.  The Members Program Post Course Examination will commence at 9:00 AM and conclude at 11:00 AM on Sunday, May 7, 2017.

There will be a cocktail and dinner for Candidates and Faculty on Friday, May 5, 2017 starting at 6:30 PM.
