NJ/PA/DE Dramatists Guild Extravaganza

Dramatists Guild Regional Representatives Stephen Kaplan and Jacqueline Goldfinger invite you to join us for a day-long extravaganza of networking, noshing, new work, and guidance in successfully submitting your work, both regionally and nationally!

Schedule of Events:

12pm - 1pm
Nan Barnett shares information about how to get involved with the NNPN (more about NNPN below), InterAct speaks about both their Regional Core Writers Program and National New Works Program, followed by a Q&A facilitated by Jacqueline Goldfinger.

1pm - 1:45pm
DG provides brunch nibbles, and playwrights from multiple regions have the chance to network with NNPN, DG, InterAct, and with each other

2pm
DG members have the option to stay to see the world premiere of InterAct's Marcus/Emma written by local playwright and InterAct Core Writer Mary Tuomanen. Discounted tickets are available for DG members. Plus, this is a Speaker Sunday performance at InterAct, so ticket-holding DG members can stay for the InterAct post-show activities for free. To get a discounted $15 ticket for Marcus/Emma, click here, select industry ticket, and then click "purchase". At the door, they'll ask for your industry affiliation: mention "Dramatists Guild." They are expecting the show to sell out, so make sure to get your tickets in-advance.

"Why should I give a flip about NNPN? And why are our Guild regions sponsoring an event with them?"

GREAT QUESTIONS! Here's why: NNPN has two primary functions that are essential to the production of new work, especially new work by non-agented and non-published writers. NNPN sponsors the New Play Exchange (NPX) where you can post information regarding your work. Theater companies can then search the NPX using key words ("drama," "activist," "monkey butts," etc) and criteria ("4 characters or less," 17 characters or more," etc). The searches give them a list of plays that fit their interests and criteria, those plays are then read by the companies to be considered for development or production. You don't have to do anything, except simply post a synopsis and play sample! They will come find you. In addition to sponsoring NPX, NNPN sponsors a national new play conference that connects playwrights directly with theatres who are interested in producing new contemporary work. If three or more of those theatres become interested in producing one new play, the NNPN will give those theatres a grant to do so, thereby incentivizing theatres to produce your play. The Feb 5 event will allow you to hear more about their programming in greater detail, how you can get involved, and meet their staff. We're bringing them here because they are one of the major forces in American theatre that gets new plays into production, and we want you to connect with them, so your work finds its rightful place on the stage.

That's FIVE HOURS of NEW PLAY GOODNESS! And we'll be done before the Super Bowl begins.
