Community Action
A Message from Executive Director Renée Bruce
It's a new year and one that I'm sure will have its fair share of unexpected twists and turns. Community Action has seen a lot change over its fifty-plus years, and through it all we continue to be here for those we serve. This month I'm proud to share with you the results of our past fiscal year in our Annual Report. As you can see, we impact a lot of lives in Washington County, from Banks to Sherwood and everywhere in between. I have so much pride in our clients and in the staff who help them. As you look through the pages of this report, I hope you will feel this pride too.

Warm wishes,
Renée Bruce
Executive Director

Homelessness in Washington County

January is the month of the annual Point in Time Homeless Count. Each year in the last week of January, our Housing and Homeless Services Team leads a countywide effort to reach out to and identify individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness.  The count includes both those who are in shelters and those who are not.  Collecting this information gives the County and our homeless services partners a measurement of our collective capacity to respond to homelessness in relation to the need.  Our Housing and Homeless Services Team is currently collecting items such as hats, gloves, socks, and tarps to give out as they meet people living outside.  If you have any items you would like to donate, please contact Kim Bjorkman at kbjorkman@caowash.org or 503-693-3297.

Additionally, Community Action is one of many service partners participating in Project Homeless Connect, a one-day event focused on providing free resources to people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. (Friday, January 27, 9Am - 3PM). Resources available at the event range from emergent health and dental care to haircuts and clothing.  The event provides an opportunity for people to engage with services that they may otherwise not be able to access.

Donor Profile:  Columbia Bank

Thank you to Columbia Bank for generously supporting our Hillsboro Family Shelter through their Warm Hearts Winter Drive. Staff and customers helped keep our families warm with donations of warm clothing, coats, and hats. In addition, their gift of over $3,000 in cash donations for the operation of the shelter will be a huge help in providing services to families as they work towards housing stability. Columbia Bank's Warm Hearts Winter Drive is truly making an impact in our community!
