I picked up my copy of Mark Nepo's book, Seven Thousand Ways To Listen earlier this week and found the words resonating in ways that I hadn't heard or felt them previously. While  I often remind my students at the beginning of class, that every time we step on to our mats we are opening to a new experience, that we may not see or feel things the same way that we did in our last practice and certainly not the way we will in future practices, this was a reminder to me of that! We learn, we change, we grow.... and then we KNOW. I want to share a bit from a section called, Three Covenants, which he opens by sharing a Henk Brandt quote,

"Our love needs to be bigger than our insanity."

Mark Nepo then goes on to describe " three covenants that keep us engaged in the work of love," which I'll outline...

"When we see something true and beautiful in someone, it is the work of love to create conditions by which what we behold can grow and blossom, bringing forth its deepest nature.

The work of love depends on giving others a sense of safety in the world, nurturing their confidence to lean into life and the unknown.

[The work] of love is to keep each other company when we're drowning in our experience and awash in our feelings, until it all can right-size, until our experience and feelings can once again sustain us."

Shall we get back to work?
