Adventure Staff in Training 

Do you love taking risks? Leading others? Spending time outdoors? Then Adventure Staff in Training (AIT) might just be for you! Similar to the Counselor in Training (CIT) program at Resident Camp, AIT gives girls hands-on experiences with adventure programs, facilitating and leading programs alongside Adventure Staff. We are accepting applications for both Spring and Summer seasons, learn more and apply today! 
Girl Scout Destinations 

Do you have a love of Girl Scouts, traveling and trying new things?! Then the  Girl Scout destinations program is for you! Girls who participate in this program return with new friends and memories to last a lifetime.  The second round of applications are due by 
Feb. 15!

Excursions

Do you want to earn your Senior Paddling Badge or just have a love of the water?!  Join us at Lake Jacomo on April 22 for a kayaking day excursion led by our trained Lifeguards and Small Craft Safety Instructors! We'll start with a safety lesson and brief introduction to kayaking before kayaking around the lake! Kayaking experience encouraged but not required. Learn more about this and an overnight kayaking excursion at Knob Noster State Park. 
Teens Needed for Inspire a Girl - April 1

We're looking for teen Girl Scouts to help us plan and implement an activity for younger Girl Scouts at Inspire a Girl! Girls will be asked to attend 3-4 meetings as well as Inspire a Girl at the Overland Park Convention Center on April 1! Camping 102 Training for Teens

If you love adventure in the outdoors then you should sign up for  Camping 102 Training! We are hosting a special Camping 102 session just for teens who want to take on new leadership roles within their troop or service unit on April 15! 

This is a hands-on training with an expert trainer and volunteer who has faced it all in the outdoors! When you've completed the training, you are eligible to assist your troop or service unit as the trained individual!  Register today!


Travel with GSKSMO

Whether you're just getting started or you're an experienced jet-setter, a new adventure is waiting for you with Council-Sponsored Trips! These opportunities unite Girl Scouts from around our council and whisk them away to locations where they will learn, grow and foster their love of Girl Scouts while accompanied by GSKSMO staff members. Most trips are girl only, but some have limited spots available for additional adult chaperones.

Summer 2017
Three European cities, two WAGGGS Centres, one amazing tour. Girl Scouts will experience the best of both worlds as incredible adventures take them through the bustling streets of London, Paris, and high up into the Swiss Alps. At Pax Lodge and Our Chalet, girls will participate in special pinning ceremonies - making their visits forever memorable and meaningful.

Travel to Columbus, Ohio with your council Girl Scout sisters and staff to attend the Girl Scout National Convention - G.I.R.L. 2017 - where you will meet, learn grow and celebrate with thousands of other Girl Scouts from around the world!
Dominican Republic
Summer 2018
Explore our strongest local connections and partnerships in an exciting visit to the Dominican Republic. With the help of many local organizations and service themes, girls have the opportunity to impact issues ranging from gender equality to generational poverty to eco-tourism. It's an unforgettable way to explore island life while making a meaningful difference in the community.

Scholarship & Community Engagement Opportunities

Beth Winters Memorial Scholarship
Graduating Girl Scouts are invited to apply for the Beth Winters Memorial Scholarship. Applications are due Feb. 1, 2017. 

ProjectCSGIRLS
The ProjectCSGIRLS Competition for Middle School Girls challenges participants in 6th-8th grade to build something using computer science and technology that can help solve an imminent social problem under one of three themes - global health, a safer world, and intelligent technology. Judges will select semifinalists, finalists, and national winners. All finalists will receive a fully paid trip to DC for our national gala, the ultimate celebration of girls in computing, in June of 2017 during which they will participate in workshops, listen to guest speakers, tour tech companies, participate in a formal awards ceremony, and showcase their projects to the public. Registration for the 2017 ProjectCSGIRLS competition closes Feb.15 and the deadline to submit projects is April 15. Mentors will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis so if students would like to request a mentor, they should register early! 

SevenDays Make a Ripple, Change the World Scholarships
Project and essay competition to reward 2016 high school seniors who will take one or more of our seven themes; Love, Discover, Others, Connect, Go, You, Onward, and apply them to a lasting project that will start a ripple and change the world. Five scholarships will be given for higher education tuition in the amount of $1,000 each.

2017 Task: Apply a Band-Aid®
Saturday, March 4, 2017
Fee: There is no registration fee for KC area teams. Black & Veatch is pleased to cover this expense for up to nine teams to ensure it is not a barrier to qualified contestants.
Deadline: Interested teams should contact Annemarie Kirby at KirbyAE@BV.com to be notified when registration opens. Deadline to register is January 27, 2017.
Limit: Registration for this regional contest is limited to 9 teams.
Team Composition: Each team must have a non-student Team Leader, and must be comprised of at least three eligible members (ages 11-14). Maximum team size is 10 people.

Linger is Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri's monthly Teen Newsletter.
