The third Transatlantic Wound Science and Podiatric Medicine Conference will take place on March 31 and April 1 in Galway, Ireland, the product of the affiliation of NYCPM and the National University of Ireland, Galway. The two-day wound science conference will be dense with presentations and workshops by experts from both institutions and beyond.

Canadian Students Complete Clinical Rotation
Seven students from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières celebrated the completion of their studies at NYCPM at a luncheon in their honor on December 15. NYCPM President and CEO Louis L. Levine noted that the students are welcome to return if they are unable to find the opportunities they need to complete their training. In the four months that they are here, the students complete a clinical rotation.

Zev Leifer, PhD
Professor of Pre-Clinical Sciences
Zev Leifer, PhD, earned his doctorate from the New York University Medical School in 1972 (in microbiology, on the function of polyamines in bacteria), after receiving an undergraduate degree at Yeshiva University and a master's from Harvard in medical science. He followed his PhD with four years of post-doctoral research, and then joined the microbiology faculty at New York Medical College at Valhalla, NY before joining the faculty at NYCPM in 1982. ...

Elective MSK Ultrasound Course Teaches Popular Technique
An elective course presented by the Continuing Education Department, "Ultrasound Guided Injections with Biologicals Forum," held on Saturday, January 7, was part of an ongoing series that provides NYCPM
alumni with CME credits and students with Pass/Fail
grades on their transcripts. This is the first time that this particular elective course has been offered; all of the other podiatry schools will eventually host it as well.

APMWA Announces 31st Annual Student Writing Competition
Per
PM News, The American Podiatric Medical Writers Association has announced its 31st Annual Student Writing Competition.
Requirements:
- All papers MUST be non-technical in nature. Appropriate subjects include practice management, ethics, law, education, or any topic that would be suitable for a lay publication.
- There is no word limit. Papers will be graded for content, style, grammar, neatness, and overall impact.
First prize will be $1,000, sponsored by an APMA Educational Foundation endowment from Dr. and Mrs. Steven Berlin, and recognition in the APMA NEWS and the APMWA Newsletter. Honorable Mention Certificates may also be awarded.
- This competition is open to ANY enrolled podiatric student.
- Entries must be received by 4/1/17 via e-mail at bblock@podiatrym.com
- Entries become the property of APMWA, which may arrange publication of the entry.

- Rock G. Positano, DPM ('88), MSc, MPH, Director of the Non-Surgical Foot and Ankle Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Deputy Chairman of the NYCPM Board, has donated $10,000 to NYCPM, and the College has established the Dr. Rock G. Positano Scholarship Fund with his generous gift.
- Patricia Wade, PhD, donated $1,000 to the Dr. Patricia Wade Scholarship Fund.
- Joel Sturm, COO, donated an additional $500 to the Rabbi Ephraim H. Sturm Scholarship Fund established last year.
- NYCPM has received the final distribution from the trust established by the late Shirley Port-Rauch, widow of Aaron Arthur Rauch, DPM ('52), under which the College has received a total of over $205,000 for podiatric education and research. |

Current Sports Medicine Reports. He
also reviews for an online journal,
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.
At Baylor, he works with vascular surgeons and researchers in its Toe and Flow Limb Preservation program.

Michael Giannone, DPM ('70)
Louis Giannone, DPM ('94) has informed
Footprints that his father, Michael Giannone, DPM ('70), has passed away.
The elder Dr. Giannone practiced podiatry in Mt. Kisco, NY for 35 years, and started the wound clinic at Northern Westchester Hospital. He was "very dedicated to podiatry," according to his son.

PM News, Gerald Joseph Gambale, DPM, ('91), of Port Richey, FL, died Dec. 16, 2016.
He was a USMC veteran and practiced podiatry in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY. He is survived by his wife, Ann; eight nieces; a nephew and a great-nephew.
