SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
They started with a list of more than $1.2 billion in short and long-term needs for the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD), but after four months, numerous tours and exhaustive document reviews, the Citizens' Facility Advisory Committee has ranked $499 million worth of projects as the highest and immediate priorities to meet the district's growth, safety, and technology needs for the next three to five years.
The Committee has hosted two public meetings to share their findings and receive feedback. The final Town Hall Meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on January 26 at Space Center Intermediate. It will also be streamed live online and through the District's Facebook account.

DR. SMITH ON THE NEW RATING SYSTEM
Clear Creek ISD was proud to name the field at Challenger Columbia Stadium "Apollo Field" during a special commemoration reception held at the stadium on January 24.
As science, engineering and this region's history in human spaceflight are important in CCISD, the Board of Trustees approved a proclamation in December to honor the three fallen astronauts, Ed White, Gus Grissom, and Roger Chaffee, through the field commemoration. January marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 1 mission tragedy so the field will bear the name throughout the anniversary year. In attendance yesterday were Ed White's son, Ed White III; a former mission control operator from that fateful day; NASA JSC Associate Center Director, Melanie Saunders; and Ralph Parr who was a Clear Creek High School teacher at the time of the tragedy, among others with special interest in the commemoration. In honor of this anniversary, CCISD also placed Legacy Bricks in honor of Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chafee in the stadium concourse.

DUAL LANGUAGE APPLICATIONS
Dual Language, also referred to as two-way immersion, is an educational model in which both native English speakers and native speakers of another language receive instruction together in both languages to promote second language acquisition, high academic achievement, and cross-cultural understanding for all students. Language learning takes place primarily through content instruction. Linguistic proficiency in both languages occurs as students develop their knowledge of subject matter through performing academic tasks.
Dual Language program applications for the 2017-2018 school year will be available on February 1, 2017.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP RESOURCES
Kids and teens today are using the immense power of digital media to explore, connect, create, and learn in ways never before imagined. With this power, young people have extraordinary opportunities, and yet they face potential pitfalls, too. Meanwhile, schools are dealing with the associated ramifications - like cyberbullying, digital cheating, and safety and security concerns. These issues underscore the need for students to learn - and for parent and educators to teach - digital literacy and citizenship skills.
Clear Creek ISD has created a new resource for parents and students to get the information they need to educate themselves on these topics. Visit the webpage below and also follow the District's social media accounts to stay informed on helpful tips and resources.
In an effort to strengthen parent and guardian education and engagement opportunities, the Clear Creek Independent School District has introduced a new parent-based web series called "CCISD School Loop." Each episode will feature a District representative who will dive deeper into important topics to help parents navigate through the school system with their students.
