The happiest new year to you!
The Collective is looking forward to 2017. We wish all a happy, peaceful, cooperative, creative, hopeful and prosperous new year.
We are looking forward to engaging more artists and other creative people in programming as well as in the administrative and board functions of the organization. We anticipate doing more work because of an increasing value for the arts, the creative process, arts education and the engagement of individuals who share our passion for service through the arts.
Our work over the last 30 years has
created and increased opportunities to make and deepen connections with people who might not otherwise be involved with the arts. We have set a pace, filled voids, enriched lives, been encouraged by our successes and strengthened by the challenges we've encountered along the way. Both our purposes for being and our resolve to continue doing this work have been tested as resources have been stretched, and disappointments have frustrated and delayed our progress.
But still we rise to model collective work and responsibility. We stand ready to work cooperatively with any entity that shares our vision for all people living a full, happy, healthy, hopeful, productive, creative and prosperous life. It is our intention to brighten Houston's glow as the most diverse city in the nation and to amplify the significance of this status.

Self Love opens January 20
"Self Love," a juried exhibition, opens Friday, January 20, at the Community Artists' Collective, 4101 San Jacinto at Cleburne, Suite 116.
The opening reception is on Friday, January 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Throughout the exhibition, which runs through April 29, there will be a series of artists' talks.
The exhibition was juried by Dominic Clay, curator at the Houston Museum of African American Culture, and local artists and curators Abiola Wabara and Ann 'Sole Sister' Johnson.
The selected artists include LaTonia Allen, Rebecca Baffour, Bert Bertonaschi, Ellie Cox, Lauren Cross, Monica Kennedy, Melba Lee, Samiria Percival, Irene Reece and Fulden Sara-Wissinger.
The Collective is open during the exhibition Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 noon until 5 p.m. and by appointment.

After-school program at Academy for Accelerated Learning
We celebrated Kwanzaa by helping children make handmade gifts.
Our "Holiday to Remember" exhibition offered unique and artistic gifts for Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Many thanks to Joan Bristow for curating the show.

The Community Artists' Collective invites you to learn about and to
work on textiles, including quilting, knitting, crochet and embroidering.
