Inmate Portraits by Nick Vedros

January 18 through April 1, 2017

Please join us to welcome the artist and special guest at the the Mulvane Art Museum, 17th and Jewell Avenues, Washburn University, on Wednesday, January 18 for a reception and program for the exhibition, Faces of Change - Inmate Portraits by Nick Vedros.

Thirty-three years ago mental health activist SuEllen Fried and Greg Musselman, an inmate with a life sentence, founded Reaching Out From Within, a program with a simple and singular goal: to transform lives.

Today this innovative and successful prison rehabilitation program operates inside every Kansas Department of Corrections Facility for men and women and has been successfully transplanted to North Carolina. At these facilities inmates meet weekly, guided by the 400-page "Blue Book," the curriculum that helps members rigorously examine the roots of violence and its impact on themselves and their loved ones.

Faces of Change features the powerful black and white images of acclaimed photographer Nick Vedros and captures the spirit of the Reaching Out From Within program and the courage of its members.

Reception:  Wednesday, January 18, 2017 - 5:30 - 7:30 pm
