Women Mandali

EARLY & LATE

Throughout his life as a spiritual Master, Meher Baba had a close circle of disciples (Mandali), both male and female. For the most part the men Mandali and women Mandali lived in separate quarters, and in a sense, Meher Baba's spiritual work and his work with his disciples can be viewed from different angles, when considering the experience and point of view of male disciples such as Eruch or Bhau, or female disciples such as Mehera or Mani. Regarding the close-knit circle of women Mandali, one may also consider the early circle as constituted in the 1920s & 1930s, versus the circle that developed in the last couple decades of Meher Baba's work (which work was completed in 1969).

Many of us who enjoyed meeting Meher Baba's Mandali in India in the 1970s and beyond were acquainted with that late circle of Women Mandali, while details of the early circle can be gleaned from Meher Baba literature. Of course certain figures -- particularly Mehera -- span the complete range of years & phases of Baba's work.
