To My Readers:
November brings with it Turkey Day. No, not Thanksgiving... Election Tuesday. As Simon & Garfunkle sang long ago (ask your parents or rent The GRADUATE) in their hit Mrs. Robinson.
Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon Going to the candidates' debate Laugh about it, shout about it When you've got to choose Every way you look at this you lose...
Like most Americans, I am sick of politicians and our broken political system where our elected officials cowtail to rich donors and a lack of term limits insures the mice will remain in-charge of the cheese. We need a legitimate third and fourth and fifth party -- only with qualified candidates who can actually name a foreign leader who is still alive.
Despite these rough choices and our growing angst about Washington and the buffoons who occupy Capitol Hill, as Americans we have a responsibility to ourselves and the rest of the world NOT to cut off our noses just to spite our faces. As such, I am urging my American readers to vote for Hillary Clinton. Placing a narcissist with the temperament of a revenge-seeking bully in the White House is extraordinarily dangerous. When the reality star candidate advocates hiring people "less smart than yourself so you remain the smartest person in the room" that's dangerous. When his campaign manager proves it by saying, "what's the point of having nuclear weapons if you're not going to use them," that is a nightmare.
Think of November 8 as the day of your next breast or prostate exam. You aren't supposed to like it, but you do it in order to prevent cancer... ku ku ca-choo. Enjoy the rest of the update.

Rest in Peace Angel...
|
Not the megalodon, my 6 year old German Shepherd, Angel, who died suddenly of unknown causes last week. She was my constant companion and smarter than 90% of the candidates who ran for president. I miss her terribly.

Living Tips - Changes in Diet Can Change Your Life
|
One of the best-kept secrets of medicine is that the body can heal itself IF we create the right conditions inside our bodies. So what are the right conditions? It all comes down to chemistry. There are only two sides to chemistry: acid and alkaline. Acids are corrosive and degenerative, causing inflammation, weakened cells and symptoms of pain and dis-ease. Alkalines are regenerative, restorative, and astringent helping our bodies heal, cleanse, and thrive. Those who make changes towards a more alkaline diet find they have less pain, less mood swings, reduction in symptoms of dis-ease. In fact, changing what you eat alone can increase your energy, tighten sagging skin, improve your overall outlook on life, and most of all, enhance your health. It is not always easy to figure out how to make these changes for yourself and your family. Consult with Visit Sue Forma, holistic coach at:

Recipe of the Month: Meaty Vegetable Soup
|
Ingredients:
1-2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 onion, chopped
1 1/2 to 2 cups chopped mixed low-starch veggies (for example, zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower)
1 cup diced stewed tomatoes (seasoned as you like)
2 meal-sized servings of protein - meat, chicken or seafood Broth (beef, chicken, vegetable, or mushroom)
Optional: 1 cup diced celery,
Chopped fresh parsley leaves, 1 teaspoon celery salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil, 1/2 cup finely minced cilantro.
Instructions:
Heat a couple of teaspoons olive oil in a soup pot or large saucepan and sauté the garlic and onion until limp. If you're cooking the protein fresh in the soup, add small cubes of meat/poultry/seafood now and cook for several minutes, stirring to ensure cooking on all sides and through to the center. Add the fresh veggies and continue to stir and sauté them for a few minutes, until they begin to soften. Add the tomatoes, the broth, and salt and pepper to taste. If you are using leftover meat, poultry or seafood, add it at this point. Bring soup to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for a few minutes (up to about an hour) over low heat. For a taste delight, sprinkle a teaspoon or two of finely chopped fresh basil or cilantro onto each bowl of soup, just prior to serving.
