A Message from the Friends of Tiverton Libraries:

In preparation for the annual FTR in May, the budget for the next fiscal year is currently being discussed. The Friends organization is concerned about the impact to the Tiverton Libraries that lack of adequate funding will present.

Due to underfunding in this current year, we have experienced Saturday closures during the summer, Union Library hours have been reduced to one day per week, the library has reduced hours on Tuesdays (1pm instead of 10am opening), staff hours were cut 3 hours per week, the book and material budget has been cut, and story times are full and additional sessions cannot be added. The library is currently at the state minimum for open hours.

The Town Council voted to recommend a $60,000. increase for the next fiscal year, and we need to urge the Budget Committee to adequately fund the library. We do not know what the additional impact will be to library services currently available without adequate funding, and we ask that you please make your voices heard on the matter. We need to make sure that the library does not lose state funds, especially the library bond repayment of over $525,000. Please contact your Town Council and Budget Committee members, and encourage your neighbors and fellow library supporters to do so also.

The Friends of Tiverton Libraries is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is library support.
