We focus on "mindfulness" and "relaxation" along with building strong bodies through strengthening bones, joints, and muscles with classic stretches. Bain RN, BSN, Managing Director, Prism Health Advocates, a consulting firm specializing in helping patients and families navigate the healthcare system, from assistance at the doctors or hospital, obtaining second opinions, eldercare or end of life decisions, to billing and insurance problems . Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. Poetry Group. The workshop is free and open to all serious poets who want to develop their work and accept meaningful critique in a small circle of area writers. This workshop is led by author/illustrator E. Barrie Kavasch. Please register.

Saturday, February 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Monthly Chess Club. The competition is open to young and old, beginners to advanced. Team combinations are encouraged - for instance, grandparent and parent-child, co-workers, friends. If someone does not have a team, he or she will be matched up at the club. Please register.

Saturday, February 4 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Collector's Showcase - all ages. Show off your prized collections. All are welcome to share what they spend time collecting. Sunday, February 26 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Family Skating Party at Kent School Rink. Our super winter fundraiser is coming up! The Parents' Committee will have delicious food for sale and skates may be rented at Backcountry Outfitters. Tickets are $4 for adults, $2 for children, and $10 for families. Skaters must wear a hat. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Junior Room at the Kent Memorial Library .

As the chill of January fills the air and we enter the bleak days of winter, the staff at the Kent Memorial Library is happy to offer a diversion to make things nice and cozy. Beginning on Wednesday, January 4, all adults are invited to warm up to a good book this winter and win a chance at a book bag filled with items to keep you warm and toasty! Adults will fill out a ticket for each book they read or listen to (including eBooks). The winning ticket will be drawn on Friday, March 31. The more books you read or listen to, the better chances you have at winning the prize.

Saturday, April 1 at 2:30 p.m. Communication Lecture: Deplorable or Relatable? What You Say Next Matters by Sarah Chase. Sarah has spent the last year working closely with the staff at the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University and the Center's famed founder, actor and writer, Alan Alda. She serves as Chief Operating Officer for Mr. Alda's new company, Alda Communication Training (ACT), which provides transformative communication and leadership training. Join us as Sarah shares what she has learned about improv and communication since working with Mr. Alda and his team of world class science communicators. The talk offers insightful reflections on pivotal moments of division and harmony in our political culture and personal lives.

Saturday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. Bobcats in Connecticut at the Kent Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Boulevard. The presentation by Paul Colburn focuses on the natural history of bobcats in CT, an overview of bobcat habitat, diet, behavior, reproduction, and current research efforts. Bobcat artifacts are shared with the audience. The topic of mountain lions is also addressed. The presentation runs 60-90 minutes, depending on the level of audience engagement. It is intended for ages 12 and older. Paul Colburn is a graduate of Master Wildlife Conservationist Program (MWCP) and is a certified Master Wildlife Conservationist (MWC). The presentation is suitable for ages 12 and up. There will be a suggested donation at the door of $5.00. Please register.

Our book sale season has come to an end. We couldn't have done it without all  
the countless volunteers who set up, sorted and priced books, stocked tables, opened and closed the sale each weekend and all of the friendly cashiers.
 
Remember, we are always looking for Volunteers for next summer!
Volunteers are needed to do tasks such as: Set Up, Book Sorting, Book Pricing, Table Stocking, Opening & Closing (tarping) and more. Please email Eric Cieplik at [email protected] or sign-up at the front desk at the Library.
 
Book Donations are always welcome!
We are pleased to accept your books year round.If you have a large donation, please call ahead to facilitate unloading the books at the old firehouse.

We can you give a tax card for a charitable donation. All sales benefit the Kent Memorial Library. We are always especially in need of current fiction, including children's books, jigsaw puzzles, movies on DVD, music and books on CDs, and non-fiction books. (there are particular items we cannot accept, such as magazines, Reader's Digest condensed books, older textbooks, VCR tapes, encyclopedias, books which have a mildew odor, records, books on cassettes.)
