Fitting In or Standing Out at Work ~ A Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde Proposition?*



When it comes to success at work, the most successful employees, according to new research by two California educators, are those that do a bit of each in their workplace roles---striking a balance between integration and non-conformity. In their paper published in the American Sociological Review, co-authors Sameer Srivastava of UC Berkeley and Amir Goldberg of Stanford University explore the relationship between fitting in, standing out, and success within an organization.
 
To learn how these embeddedness dimensions relate to employee success, the researchers studied employee age, gender and tenure, and identified all employees who had left their employer and whether their departure was voluntary or involuntary. That data enabled them to correlate professional success with fitting in and standing out

U.S. Workers Project Skills and Training Needed for Future Job Success*
 
A recent Pew Research Center survey, conducted in association with the Markle Foundation, has determined that the vast majority of U.S. workers say that new skills and training may hold the key to future success in the workplace. In reflection, the study reported that the period 1980-2015 saw a growing emphasis on occupations requiring social (88%) and analytical (77%) skills while occupations calling for physical skills (18%) were less in demand.
 
The study also identified the employment sectors that had grown by the greatest numbers in the past recent years and likely to sustain that growth in the coming years.

For the first time, a U.S. college has passed the 100,000 mark in applications for admission. That dubious honor goes to the University of California - Los Angeles that has 102,000+ applicants vying for approximately 6,500 slots in the freshman class scheduled for enrollment this coming fall.

NAPS Creates Frank Burtnett Education Scholarship ~ Application Deadline is 2/28/17



NAPS has created the Frank Burtnett Education Scholarship to support the professional development of a search and staffing professional at a member firm in earning NAPS certification and participating in the educational activities of the annual association national conference. The scholarship is designed to recognize the contributions of the individual who has served the certification and educational needs of the organization for more than two decades.
 
Each year one individual, who is a current NAPS member, will be selected to receive the following:
 
a) Complimentary individual registration for the NAPS annual conference
b) Complimentary registration for CPC or CTS certification, including training manual and examination fee
c) Complimentary registration for the on-site Certification Immersion Class
d) Placement of recipient name on a personalized certificate (to be awarded at a conference session/luncheon) and on a NAPS plaque for conference display

Answer:   Unless otherwise stated, each NAPS Lunch N Learn session has a value of one hour toward the 17 hours needed annually for maintenance of either the CPC or CTS certificate.
