Señ or Mayorga's First Class Student for Spanish is Sean S. Sean is a kindergartener in Ms. Siegman's class. Sean actively participates in Spanish class. He engages in speaking, listening, reading and writing activities when he is in class. When we sing the Spanish Learning songs he knows how to sing with a nice clear voice demonstrating his progress with fluency. His favorite activity has been working with building his own restaurant menu in Spanish. Sean is a First Class Student for Spanish Class because he engages with all our activities to the best of his ability.
Plat’s Annual “Soup”-er Bowl

On January 11th Plat School will begin its annual soup collection for local food pantries of Washington County.  The classes will work as teams to see which class can collect the most soup or canned vegetables.  All donations will be taken to the food pantries of Washington County.  The canned goods will be collected from January 11th until January 27th.  Thank you in advance for making this year’s “Soup”-er Bowl a real success!  At this “Soup’er” Bowl, everybody wins!

MILWAUKEE BUCKS OFFER
The Milwaukee Bucks organization is providing the families and friends of the Richfield School District with an exciting opportunity.   The flyer displayed here was sent home with your child this week.  You can also find a copy of this flyer on the front page of the school district's website.
LOST & FOUND ITEMS
Is your child missing their snow pants, jacket, mittens or boots?  Chances are they are in the lost and found at school. We have many unclaimed items in both the Plat and RES lost and found. Please stop by the lost and found tables when you come for conferences next week to see if you can claim any of your lost items.  Any items unclaimed by the end of the school year will be donated.
The Richfield 6th grade class recently visited the UW Oshkosh Polk Library to do research for National History Day.  While there, the university interviewed some of the students and featured them in an article.  Congratulations to the Richfield 6th graders for their moment in the spotlight.

Resiliencethe capacity to rise above difficult circumstances, allowing our children to exist in the world, while moving forward with confidence

How can we build resilience in our students?  Our goal is to help them gain tools that will enable them to succeed, despite what is “thrown at them” in life.  This is not an easy task, by any means, but there are several ways we can promote resiliency amongst our students:

  • Promoting and helping students form caring relationships with peers
  • Sending high expectation messages to remind them of their strengths
  • Offering opportunities for meaningful participation and contribution by entrusting them with responsibilities and decision making opportunities
  • Promoting self-efficacy by guiding students to believe they have what they need to reach their goals and they know how to advocate for resources they need

  • Time for open and honest reflection, dialogue, and critical thinking around issues salient to them
  • Find something (anything) they can excel in so they develop sense of self-confidence
  • Allow for more creative expression (art, music, poetry, story-telling, acting)
  • Service or volunteer opportunities
  • Forming connections with teacher, parents, or other adults they respect
