A New Year, A New PRSA Cleveland
A letter from our 2017 president...
A new year tends to inspire us to see our lives with fresh eyes. If you're like me, that includes re-examining your priorities. Here's why I hope PRSA Cleveland will remain a priority for you this year.

Despite being one of the Society's largest and most active chapters, members of the board of the Greater Cleveland Chapter are not content to do business as usual. Our 2017 goal is to provide even greater value to our members. So, e xpect more networking opportunities, great programming, a revamped nonprofit series and other surprises. We remain dedicated to providing value through opportunities that enable you to wisely invest in your professional growth regardless of where you are in your career.

Of course, to truly optimize the benefits of your membership, it's important to be involved. In addition to attending our Chapter's events and programs, I invite you to join one of our many committees to build relationships with other members and help guide the direction of the Chapter. To learn more, please contact Rachel Kerstetter, our membership chair .

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and watch for our monthly newsletter and periodic emails to keep you up to date on Chapter activities. Visit our Chapter website  regularly for employment listings, industry news, program information and other opportunities.  I am honored to serve as your president this year. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Warm Regards,
Lorraine Schuchart, APR
President, Greater Cleveland Chapter

A look ahead at 2017 programming.
BY LISA SANDS, VP OF PROGRAMMING, PRSA CLEVELAND
We're working on the completion of our 2017 programming calendar. We'll continue to bring you relevant programs that educate, inspire, and promote personal and professional growth...with some new twists.  Count on some of our regular programs -- Business and the Media (March), Hill Lighthouse Young Awards (October), Student Day (November), and the Rocks Awards (December). ( Did you know that the Rocks Awards turn 15 this year? We're planning something extra special for the occasion, and we'll host a Rocks Awards info session (August) to help you with the entry process.)

We'll start out 2017 by kicking off our new Success Story Series on February 16 with a few solo pros presenting a different perspective on how they made the decision to work for themselves, how they differentiate and market their services against larger, full service firms, their tips on cultivating and maintaining a profitable client base, and where they go when they need advice. These quarterly events will take place over a "happy hour" where you can unwind and network with fellow pros. Registration will open soon.

We are also planning programs in association with PRSA National, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Akron PRSA chapter, addressing topics like communicating effectively and respectfully in a diverse world, the fluidity between journalism and PR roles, influencer and contributor marketing, crisis communications, and continuing education. And, we're bringing back the popular non-profit learning series with several workshops to support non-profit PR professionals with advice and tools scaled towards small staffs and budgets. These will be held at the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District offices March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Save the date, and stay tuned for more info.

We'll be sure to leave room for a little fun with a Chapter outing at an Indians game in the spring and our annual Membership Appreciation event in August.

Stay up to date on upcoming events on our website's event page. We want to hear from you as well. Tell us what you like, what you don't, and what we can present to be a valuable asset to your career. Email me any ideas you have.  Finally, our entire chapter would like to thank John Znidarsic of Adcom for his leadership of the programming committee this past year.
