A summer teaching at Breakthrough is like no other experience. Don't just get a job. Change lives - apply as a summer Teaching Fellow. We promise it will be one of the most challenging and inspiring nine weeks of your life.
The Teaching Fellowship is a paid summer internship. College undergraduates and exceptional high school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply.
The Early Action deadline to apply online is January 12. The final deadline to apply for summer 2017 is February 23.

6th Grade Student Recruitment Has Begun!

School Visits Planned
Breakthrough's Assistant Director Lucy Weathers will be visiting Manchester middle schools in January to speak with sixth grade students about the Breakthrough opportunity.
- McLaughlin Middle School - January 9
- Southside Middle School - January 11
- Hillside Middle School - January 12
- Parkside Middle School - January 19
Manchester sixth graders, including those who do not attend one of the above schools or who miss the presentation, are welcome to apply. We seek motivated students who generally like to learn and are willing to work hard, with priority given to those who have limited access to academic enrichment and summer opportunities.
Breakthrough offers a three-year, tuition-free summer learning opportunity and meets on five Saturdays during the school year. After their three year summer commitment, students are invited and encouraged to continue with the Breakthrough program at Southern New Hampshire University which supports students through high school and college matriculation.

Breakthrough Seeks a Summer Instructional Coach for Math
|
Experienced Math Educators and Mentors Invited to Apply
Training and supporting a team of young, aspiring teachers takes a team of experts who are committed to developing the next generation of great educators. The professional Instructional Coaches who work with Breakthrough Teaching Fellows are the academic backbone of the services provided to students. These remarkable individuals are among the most innovative and successful middle and high school teachers in area schools and school districts.
This is a paid position in a fast-paced and rewarding program, working with college-age emerging teachers and motivated middle school students. Candidates must be qualified to coach young teachers as they plan and present pre-algebra, algebra and geometry lessons.

Honoring our Jayme's Fund Scholar
|
Lilyana Peralta, a seventh grader at McLaughlin Middle School, was selected this summer as the
Jayme's Fund for Social Justice Scholar.
Lily is pictured here with Caren Rifkin at the organization's annual
dinner. Caren established Jayme's Fund, and an endowed Breakthrough scholarship, in memory of her daughter, Jayme Lipkin-Moore, who loved her experience as a Breakthrough teacher and inspired many students.
The honor is
given each summer to a Breakthrough student who is intellectual, creative, expressive, socially conscious and motivated to make the world a better place.
Lily loves reading, writing, drawing, fashion design and basketball, and her teachers describe her as kind, respectful and considerate. Although Lily describes herself as shy, she is delightful in conversation with a ready smile and a twinkle in her eye. Lily works hard at Breakthrough. She would be the first in her family to attain a four-year college degree, and she views education as the ticket to her future.

Meredith Zackey Joins National Staff
|
 Meredith Zackey, Breakthrough Manchester's former Program Director, has taken a position as the Director of Middle School Programs with the national Breakthrough Collaborative. In this role, Meredith will support the twenty-four Breakthrough sites across the country in their summer and school-year programming for middle school students. Meredith came to Breakthrough Manchester from the Breakthrough site in Philadelphia, bringing an infusion of new ideas and approaches with her and enriching the Manchester program in the process. With her clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities in both independent and hosted Breakthrough sites, Meredith has much to offer. Congratulations, Meredith!

Our Mission
The dual missions of Breakthrough Manchester are to launch promising Manchester middle school students, particularly those with limited opportunities, on the path to college while inspiring high school and college students to pursue careers in education.
We do this by:
* Recruiting and selectively admitting high-potential sixth graders with limited opportunities from Manchester middle schools for a tuition-free, three-year program
* Providing three rigorous, joyful academic summers and school year supports to admitted students during their middle school years
* Connecting ninth graders with the Breakthrough College-Bound program at Southern NH University to create a seamless pipeline of opportunity through high school
* Recruiting, training, mentoring and supporting college students, and some local high-achieving high school students, as excellent teachers
* Engaging a broad array of stakeholders in understanding, promoting, funding and championing both missions of Breakthrough.
