A new calendar year brings the chance for students to commit to personal goals, which could be academic in nature or even mean stepping out of their comfort zone by joining a club or activity. Similarly, a new semester presents an opportune time to remind families about the availability of helpful resources that can be accessed during and after school to help pursue those goals.
For a quick and convenient reference, visit the Academic Resources page on the district website. This page highlights the second semester daily schedule of teachers assigned to math and science tutoring, as well as the Write Here lab at both campuses. Additionally, the site provides answers to frequently asked questions about borrowing Chromebooks and graphing calculators. Students can also access this information from LP Launchpad when using Lake Park devices.
As West Campus students actively prepare for their post-high school experiences, many juniors have already registered for SAT exam test prep courses. Although the sessions offered by Lake Park are full and have begun, Kaplan Test Prep will be conducting courses on-campus starting in February. Registration is available through Monday, January 30. Families of seniors can access a myriad of resources available through the Counseling Department including a list of local scholarship opportunities and a schedule of onsite college visits.
The daily student announcements read during period 1 at West Campus and period 2 at East Campus provide ongoing opportunities to get involved in spring athletic tryouts and join after school organizational meetings for second semester. Please feel free to access these announcements and encourage your student to participate.
I'm excited about the new semester ahead, and hope the coming weeks continue to bring us all renewed energy and focus. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping Lancer students achieve their goals, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Welcoming the Class of 2021! 
An Incoming Ninth Grade Family Night program will be held on Wednesday, Janua
ry 1

in the Lake Park East Campus auditorium. The orientation program is designed to benefit stud
ents and parents. This important evening will include review of placement information, interpretation of PSAT 8 test results, and an explanation of elective course offerings.
After the presentation, families are invited to an open house where they will have an opportunity to meet faculty from each department and ask specific questions of counselors.
To accommodate all attendees, the program will have staggered start times depending on the school that your student currently attends:

Lake Park counselors visited middle schools this week to preview and discuss the Academic Planning Guide, which is an important educational planning resource for families.

1:1 Chromebook Initiative Seeks Freshman Parent Input
At the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, Lake Park High School officially launched a 1:1 instructional technology initiative for the Class of 2020. All incoming freshmen received a Chromebook, a laptop-like computing device, to support and enhance their educational experience.
The first semester of the Chromebook program was a great success! Students and teachers have been using the devices to learn both in and out of the classroom.
As part of the district's continuous improvement efforts, Lake Park is interested in hearing again from parents/guardians of the Class of 2020 how the Chromebook program is working for your student. Please take this
brief survey to provide feedback that will contribute to recommendations and modifications for next school year.

Final Opportunity to Register for SAT Test Prep Course
In preparation for the SAT test dates available this spring for juniors, Kaplan Test Prep will begin offering a course in February 2017 to develop the study skills to improve SAT scores.
Hosted on Wednesday evenings and some Saturday mornings, the program provides 18 hours of in-class instruction. Registration is $400 and will be accepted through the

deadline.

With four in-class tests and six additional timed online tests, students have access to more test-like practice prior to the SAT on

LPEF to Award 28 Scholarships Totaling Over $19,000
The Lake Park Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of 28 scholarships totaling over $19,000 that are available for Lake Park High School seniors in the Class of 2017.
Students must submit a completed common scholarship application, essay(s), and appropriate supporting materials for each scholarship. Scholarship applications are due to the Career Center at Lake Park West Campus by
Thursday, March 9 (
note: the deadline for the Scott Bradley memorial Scholarship is

Technology Center of DuPage to Host Open House 
Lake Park freshmen, sophomores and juniors are invited to explore career possibilities at the Technology Center of DuPage's Community Open House at 301 S. Swift Road in Addison on Wednesday, January 18 from 6:30 p.m to 8:30 p.m.
Fourteen school districts, including Lake Park, operate the TCD campus, which offers 20 advanced career and technical education electives to high school juniors and seniors. Through a continued partnership with Glenbard High School District 87, Lake Park families are invited and welcome to attend the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families. The programs are free and open to the public; no registration is required.

Rose Queen Applications Due January 25
The Rose Queen Scholarship program offers local high school women an opportunity to compete annually for college scholarships totaling over $3,000. The celebration consists of six areas: application & essay; personal interview; casualwear; talent; formalwear; Q&A.
Current Lake Park High School junior Grace Biernacki was crowned in 2016 and has represented the Village of Roselle at the annual Rose Parade, the annual tree lighting ceremony, and other special events involving the Chamber of Commerce and Roselle Public Library during her reign.
The Annual Rose Queen Scholarship Pageant will be held on Friday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the the Lake Park High School West Campus auditorium.
