Happy 2017! I hope you had a blessed and happy holiday season. Our students and staff returned to school this week after our Christmas break, and are rested and ready for the new year!
Thank you again to all who supported the Grand Raffle Fundraiser. I am excited to share that we were able to raise a net total of

42,457 for our Security Initiative
.

We have now fully covered the costs for our new security camera system (including some additional requirements and costs that arose during installation), so we can now look to funding other critical initiatives such as curriculum enhancements, technology upgrades, and support of our cultural programming.
I also want to thank the Lee Family for their amazing generosity! Eighth-grader Trinity Lee was our big $19,444 raffle winner, and her family very graciously donated a significant amount of their winnings back to St. Therese in the form of a special teacher and staff bonus, support for the new security camera system, and funding of curriculum upgrades and other academic needs.
Before the break, we had a short but exciting month. Our 5
th and 6
th grade students participated in the QED Math Symposium at Walter Payton High School, and seven junior high students were selected to attend the Big Shoulders 2017 Brush Creek Ranch Science Enrichment Program in Wyoming this summer.
This month, we will be celebrating Catholic Schools' Week. We begin the week with mass, followed by a week's worth of activities celebrating learning! Our students will also participate in our History Bee, Spelling Bee, Science Fair, and the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting (print and cursive) Contest. All local contests are affiliated with city, state and national organizations. School winners will all advance in their respective levels.

50/50 Grand Giveaway Raffle A Huge Success!
The 50/50 Grand Giveaway Raffle drawing was held on Monday, December 19 in St. Therese Church. The fundraiser was a resounding success. A total of
$
42,457 was raised from ticket sales and donations.
Thank you for your support of this important fundraiser.
The money raised covered the costs of our new security camera system, a critical need for the school.

Our big winners include: Grand Prize Winner [$19,444]: Trinity Lee (8th grade); 1st Prize [$3,000]: Zhirong Li; 2nd Prize [$1,500]: Wai Lun Ng; 3rd Prize [$112]: Rose Constabileo.
Our top student ticket sellers were: Hannah Lee (1st grade), Trinity Lee (8th grade) and Sofia Mark (7th grade). The top selling class was 1st grade.
Thank you again to Trinity Lee and her family, who donated a substantial portion of their grand prize back to the school!

Christmas Celebrated in Program Enjoyed by All
Families and friends of St. Therese were treated to the sweet singing voices of our students at the Annual Christmas Concert. Students prepared and practiced with their classroom teachers, Ms. Lofton, and Mr. Tooles for weeks to achieve their angelic tonality.
It was impossible not to be in the Christmas spirit after hearing and seeing our children perform in this year's program. What a lovely send off for our Christmas break and holiday celebrations.

Students and Staff Celebrate Advent Season in Many Ways
Quantifying God's grace is impossible. Nevertheless, we are grateful to share with you the blessings St. Therese School received during Advent 2016, including
16 masses attended by students,

student readers,
73 confessions,
100's of communions,
Immaculate Conception Mass,
2 family masses, 1
all school reconciliation service with 3 priests,
Church cleaning and decorating, and a
Christmas concert attended by over 900 people.
Fr. Francis Li shared these words of wisdom with the 6th grade students at the last Advent mass: "Continue to pray, not only for yourself, but for others."

Junior Varsity (Red Team) are
2016 Flag Football Champions
The Junior Varsity Red Team defeated St. Ann in a very close Chicago Unity League Championship game! St. Therese came in to the game only having lost once during the season to St. Ann, who came into the game undefeated. This was the third time a St. Therese JV team had played in a Championship game and St. Therese's second Championship victory, the other occurring in 2014.
Members of the team include Danny Chen, Joel Casey, Alma Gyabin, Alex Moy, Ryan Daly, Henry Zhao, Darrian Lau, Aaron Garner, Martin Moy, Matthew Chan, Preston Yuen, and Jackie Del Raso. The team was coached by Mr. Sam Moy and Mr. Patrick Daly.

Takes 3rd Place!
The Junior Varsity White Team defeated St. Pius in a hard fought 3rd Place game! The game was very evenly matched with St. Therese prevailing with the victory.
Members of the team include Raymond Yang, Ethan Mui, Justin Zhen, Caitlyn Lee, Mathew Schiml, Nathan Lau, Matthew Hui, Angelina Wu, Xahil Gonzalez, Joshua Mack, and Elvis Chen. The team was coached by Mr. David Cho and Mr. Mike Hui.

Varsity Flag Football Team
Takes 3rd Place!
The Varsity Team finished in 3rd Place in a highly competitive season in the Varsity division. The team lost 2 very close games during
the regular season to St. Ann, the eventual champion, and St. Pius. St. Therese defeated St. Catherine-St. Lucy in the first round of the playoffs. St. Therese then met up again with St. Pius in the semi-finals of the playoffs and lost a very high scoring game to finish the season. This is the third year in a row that the Varsity has finished in the top 3 of the league (2nd place in 2014, Champions in 2015) in very hard fought games.
Members of the team include Robert Novak, Tyler Hu, Michael Rizk, Ethan Camacho, Matthew Tam, Simon Hu, Jaden Li, Wyatt Harley, Chad Gyabin, Jacob Seid, Henry Yang, David Li, Nicky Moy, Nick Wu, and Justin Mei. The team was coached by Mr. Jeff Chrusciel, Mr. Jerome Watts, and Mr. Arnas Gintautus.
