Make your Voice Heard on The Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has provided health care insurance to over 400,000 Virginians, many for the first time in their lives. But as you may know, the ACA is in jeopardy of being repealed by Congress. VBCF supports the fight against the ACA's repeal, particularly without a viable replacement. Listed below are a few ways you can get involved:

1) Share your story with Virginia Senator Tim Kaine:
"I am asking Virginians to help me save health care by sharing how the Affordable Care Act has helped you or a loved one, as well as ways we can make the law work better for all Americans," Kaine said. "The more stories I can share about how Virginians would be hurt by a repeal, the better case I can make to my Republican colleagues for why we ought to be working together to fix our health care system, rather than rushing to break it by repealing the ACA with no plan for a replacement."

To share your story, go to the Senator's newly launched on-line tool:  ACAStory

2) Attend the "Rally To Save Our Health Care" at the VA State Capitol this Sunday, January 15th.  To RSVP: ActionTimKaine

3) Call your U.S. Representative and Senators to urge them to vote "No" on ACA repeal legislation, particularly without replacement

Use the attached VA Congressional Delegation Contact Sheet to call your legislators and express your views.  Sample talking points:

- If Congress repeals the ACA without a replacement, it could leave over 400,000 Virginians without health insurance, many with no affordable options including many with preexisting conditions like breast cancer.

- Virginians facing a breast  cancer diagnosis or recurrence need treatment immediately to save their lives. If you vote to eliminates their insurance under the ACA, they can't wait to replace it with something else which may or may not cover them. Additionally, any replacement enacted must include a provision requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions at no additional cost. If you vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a replacement signed into law, breast cancer survivors begin to worry about their coverage, about their pre-existing conditions, about the risk of recurrence, about their families and about their future.

If you call your legislators, please let us know by using the VBCF Advocacy Activity tracker.  Thank you.
