2017 Town Crier publication schedule

The Town Crier is a bi-weekly publication committed to keeping residents informed on Town of High River news, programs and services.

Print editions of the Town Crier will be inserted in the Friday edition of the High River Times every two weeks starting on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. Electronic editions will be emailed out to subscribers the morning of the same day.

The only exception to the schedule will be in the months of July and August when there will be just one issue published.

To subscribe to the Town Crier email list visit www.highriver.ca  and click on the News then Town Crier link at the top of the page, or email [email protected].
Deadline to renew dog licenses is January 31

It is now time to renew your dog licenses for 2017. Fees will be $30 for neutered dogs and $60 for others. Current licenses expired on December 31, 2016 and need to be renewed by January 31, 2017. The penalty for not holding a current license is $100 to $250.

You are also asked to display the license on your pet at all times. That way if your pooch ever escapes and goes on an adventure, they can be easily reunited with you.
The penalty for not having a license displayed on the collar is $75. Bylaw Services would like to thank everyone for their cooperation.

A dog license is required once your dog is three months old. Renewal of licenses can be done online at www.highriver.ca  by clicking on the Residents > Bylaw & Protective Services > Animal Services menu, or at the Town Office located at 309B Macleod Trail S.W. New licenses cannot be purchased online and must be purchased in-person at the Town Office.

If you would like to have your dog license renewal emailed to you, please contact [email protected]
What makes a town great? Well, it starts with a great brand.

Submitted by the Economic Development Department and Anstice Communications

The Town of High River will be holding a branding public engagement session in the coming weeks. The purpose will be to discuss a revitalized brand to help tell High River's story and attract new residents, investors and tourists to our amazing town.

We will be looking for input from the public to help shape this strategy as the Town continues to move forward.

Once details on the public engagement event are finalized, information will be shared on the Town of High River website, as well as Facebook and Twitter.

It's no surprise that branding is everywhere, from the clothes we wear to the coffee we drink, we are constantly exposed to brands. A strong brand has long since been recognized as a fundamental component to achieving success. But the concept of branding is always evolving; it no longer just applies to a product or service but can be applied to an idea, a place, or even yourself.

Town branding is becoming increasingly important for a reason - it communicates a town's story in a creative and compelling way, while reaching the right audience. When done correctly, a brand campaign not only serves to revitalize a town and attract tourists, new residents and investors, but also helps boost civic pride among current residents and improve its overall reputation.

Phase one of water tower demolition to begin this month

The Town of High River is in the process of demolishing the water tower at the corner of 8 Avenue S.E. and 3 Street S.E. and a contract has been awarded to Dakota Reclamators Ltd. to complete phase one, including the hazardous materials abatement and tower demolition.

The Town's request for proposal (RFP) competition closed on December 19 with seven submissions received. Phase one will begin in late January and be completed by the end of February, weather permitting.

Phase two of the project will proceed to a second RFP competition and will involve the removal of the top of the concrete base and soil around the water tower tank. This work will proceed in early spring and is scheduled for completion in late May.

The soil will then be replaced in order for redevelopment of that portion of the site for park use. The remainder of the site will not be disturbed.

The Town asks visitors and residents of the area to please observe all construction signage and traffic control during the demolition.

The Kinette Club of High River is currently raising funds to help build a new park once the tower is removed. Residents interested in donating resources or time to the project to visit the club's website at www.highriverkinettes.com   for more information.
