Instructional Materials Showcase

Please plan to join us at ESC Region 12 for our Instructional Materials Adoption Showcase in Support of Proclamation 2017 on Thursday, February 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Vendor representatives will have an opportunity to share and showcase materials and answer questions throughout the day. Join us to learn more about the instructional materials available tor 2017.

Math and Reading Academy Dates
|
|
This summer we will once again provide math and reading academies for
teachers of math and reading students on
eligible campuses for the grade levels specified below. The
FLIER of dates can be accessed by clicking the image above or the orange hotlink. Registration is not available at this time, but teachers can begin considering dates for attendance.
- Mathematics achievement academies for teachers who provide math instruction to students at the kindergarten or first grade level (Senate Bill 934, 84th Texas Legislature, 2015)
- Literacy achievement academies for teachers who provide reading instruction to students at the second or third grade level (SB 925, 84th Texas Legislature, 2015)
- Reading-to-learn academies for teachers who provide reading comprehension instruction to students at the fourth or fifth grade level (SB 972 84th Texas Legislature, 2015)

Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, appraisal systems in Texas, whether the state-recommended system or a locally developed system,
will need to include a measure of student growth at the individual teacher level.
Possible student growth measures include...
- portfolios
- student learning objectives
- value added measures or
- district pre- and post-assessments

Region 12 will be providing a TEA training on Implementing Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) to support the use of SLOs as a measure of student growth. The dates for the one-day training are listed below:

Seven Schools Spotlighted in TEA
Best Practice Case Studies
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has spotlighted seven campuses across the state as part of a best practices case studies project. The TEA best practice studies project highlights how each campus, designated by TEA as High Performing and High Progress Title I Reward Schools, excels in critical areas such as academic performance, teacher quality, school climate and leadership effectiveness.

TEA Identifies Seven Local Campuses as
Title I Reward Schools
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) identified 300 campuses across the state as High-Performing and/or High-Progress Title I schools for 2015-2016. Seven schools from Region 12 were among these and have been identified as Reward Schools.
- Hubbard Elementary (Hubbard ISD) - High-Progress and High-Performing
- Paul and Jane Meyer Public HS (Rapoport Academy) - High-Progress and High-Performing
- La Vega Elementary (La Vega ISD) - High-Progress and High-Performing
- Hewitt Elementary (Midway ISD) - High-Progress
- Leon Heights Elementary (Belton ISD) - High-Performing
- Crawford High School (Crawford ISD) - High Performing
- Speegleville Elementary (Midway ISD) - High-Performing
Title I schools are defined as campuses with a student population of at least 40 percent low-income.
The identification of high-performing and/or high-progress is based on statewide reading and mathematics assessments under the State Accountability System in the 2014-2015 school year and graduation rates.

Math Games for the Classroom with Box Cars and One-Eyed Jacks
|
|
This summer, ESC Region 12 is excited to host Box Cars and One-Eyed Jacks on July 14 here at ESC Region 12. In this interactive, hands-on math games workshop, participants will learn how to use and easily implement games as a teaching strategy. The session will focus on critical areas of the TEKS and provide fun and low stress ways to work on fluency with students. Don't miss this exciting opportunity.
