Goodwill's Service in 2016 Impacted Lives and Our Communities
Helping People Get Back to Work and Gain Greater Independence

In 2016, Goodwill's service to individuals and the communities remained strong in the wake of funding cuts and shifting shopping patterns that resulted in lower sales in Goodwill stores. Goodwill assisted 45,632 people through job training and employment programs and helped to place 4,067 individuals in competitive community employment with an average wage at placement of $10.54 per hour. Individuals also earned 1,335 industry recognized credentials that enabled them to enter the workforce at a higher wage, and with the opportunity to advance their skills and grow within their chosen career. These are youth, adults, and seniors in our communities with disabilities, disadvantages, and those who have lost their job due to company closing or layoff that are now on the road to achieving greater independence.

Retail Trends Nationwide Impact Goodwill Stores
The Shift to Online Shopping Means Lower Sales in Traditional Goodwill Stores

Retailers nationwide are feeling the pinch as customers are choosing alternatives to walking into traditional brick and mortar retail stores. Goodwill is no different. Throughout 2016 Goodwill's retail sales have struggled to meet targets. But for Goodwill, missed targets don't represent unrealized profits; instead it means those dollars are not available to support job training and employment programs for people in our community.

We Are in This Together
A message from our President & CEO, Bruce Phipps

With the disruptive nature of our last political season, I think it is important that we all embrace a set of core values that will bring unity to our communities. We all want the country to come together, however it becomes increasingly difficult when the facts are distorted, untrue stories are told, or when the news takes words out of context. We find ourselves in unsettled times and organizations like Goodwill can help in the healing process.
