Creative Connections
March 30, 6:30 PM
Sometimes petting and brushing your dog isn't enough during a visit. Working for prolonged periods of time with kids or elders sometimes calls for you to have a few extra "tricks up your sleeve." We have created a fun, hour-long class that will give you scads of ideas on easy, simple activities you can incorporate into your visits.
Nemours Prep
April 13, 6:30 PM
PAWS' therapy teams visit in several outpatient areas of Nemours/AI duPont Hospital for Children. This
course covers an o
verview of Nemours (logistics, required visitation techniques, etc.), the t
ypes of patients and disabilities you may encounter, s
trategies and options to incorporate into your therapy visits, and c
hallenges you will face with this type of visiting.
First Visit Assistant Training
April 27, 6:30 PM
PAWS welcomes experienced volunteer team members to help newer teams familiarize themselves with the visiting process. Participation in this program offers PAWS service hours to teams.

Sites to Celebrate
|
We would like to thank all of the sites we visit for supporting PAWS and Pet Therapy! Here is just one of the sites we are proud to celebrate.
CONCERN
PAWS is proud to partner with CONCERN in Coatesville, PA, which works with boys from challenging and sometimes heartbreaking backgrounds. PAWS teams, Joanne Orth & Gillie and Susan Greenholt & Xaria, are enjoying spreading some puppy love to these kids.
Additional team support is always welcome! Please contact Racine if you are interested in visiting this site. |

Do you have any of the following things?
- Mini bottles of
hand sanitizer
- Stickers for children
- Clean, gently used socks to make into soft balls for tossing
- Dog Treats
- Dog Toys for new members
- Space - We're always looking for free space to use for small PAWS events. If you know of a church, community center, school, or office that might have a room for training, meetings, or gatherings, we would love to know!
Please contact the PAWS office for more information or to make a donation. Thank you!

Tom Good & Archie
|
Recently, PAWS member Tom Good and his therapy companion, Archie, were asked to visit with a boy at Nemours/AI duPont Hospital for Children.
"The visit went very well. The boy was afraid of dogs so the visit was about getting more comfortable around Archie and dealing with his fear. After about 15 min of us being close by, he agreed to try and pet Archie - and he did a little. Then I had him toss treats to Archie to catch. That was the ice breaker and a lot of fun! Then the psychologist wanted him to give Archie a treat out of his hand. That did not go too well. He did it once and did not like Archie's wet tongue. So I asked him if he would like to walk Archie around the hospital using the short leash. He liked that. After a while he asked to stop so he could sit down with Archie and pet him. At the end of the 40 minute session, they were best friends and the boy was hugging Archie."

Shining Stars |

Carolayn Cunnion & Riley
This terrific team visits in southern Delaware and completed their Advanced Training in the fall. They recently held PAWS for Reading sessions at the Selbyville Public Library. While there, Carol and Riley posted themselves by the front entrance and recruited five new readers (and potential Goldie's Gang members). Many thanks to them for all they do to raise awareness of PAWS downstate!
Mike Zdinak & Ellis
This dynamic duo have been a part of PAWS for many years. They visit Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children every Friday. Graciously, they have welcomed several potential Nemours pet therapy teams to shadow them - and all have reported wonderful stories about what a "Rock Star" Ellis is. What a great team!
