After eight years of loyal service, Laura Rubinfeld's last day as CEO of the Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors® was December 30, 2016. Her leadership has been greatly appreciated and the Board thanks Laura for her commitment and dedication to EBCBOR.

N.J. Supreme Court: Towns must have affordable housing
 
The Fair Share Housing Center, a nonprofit that argued on behalf of poor and middle-class families, said towns would have been able to avoid up to 60 percent of their affordable housing obligations over the next decade if the court had ruled the other way, leading to more racially and economically segregated communities.


Hackensack Building to be Redeveloped as Apartments

A 19th-century warehouse in downtown Hackensack has been sold to a developer that plans to turn the building into about 30 loft-style apartments. The 20,000-square-foot, four-story property is in Hackensack's rehabilitation area, which town officials created as part of an effort to encourage redevelopment of a tired downtown that was once a commercial center for Bergen County.

Housing Starts Spring 11.3 Percent, Ending 2016 on High Note

Housing starts ended 2016 on a high note, beating expectations and springing 11.3 percent above the prior month's figure. Privately-owned housing starts came in at 1,226,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), while single-family starts came in 4.0 percent below the prior month's figure.
