Important notes from Reverend Beth,
As I mentioned in my Jan 8th sermon and in my Epiphany letter, we have the opportunity to bring to life a new partnership. Our neighbours, The Ministry of Coffee, have come to us with a proposal to move their business to our property, more specifically to our hall. Corporation, the Making Connections Working Group and Parish Council are working hard to ensure this falls within our values and mandate, in conjunction with the Diocesan Property and Finance Team explore all the risks and benefits, implications and legalities, to reimagine how our space may be used more creatively and wisely, and meet all the checks and balances which are part of our church system. Please come and explore, ask questions, and be involved in the following events over the next few weeks.

Sunday 22nd at Noon
Making Connections: Creating an Abundant Future
After the 10:15 Service: Please get your coffee and then proceed to the Narthex where you will begin an interactive experience exploring how we have come to this place, what our new vision statement and guiding principles contain, the details and potential related to the Ministry of Coffee proposal, and possible creative ways of using our space.

FIDGET QUILT WORKSHOP
Saturday February 4th
9 am to 3 pm - Hall

A  super fun, creative day making these lap sized quilts for an Ottawa seniors’ residence. Fidget quilts or blankets provide sensory or tactile stimulation through the use of fabric choices, colours, value of colours next to one another, textures, and the use of accents or simple accessories such as pockets, laces, trims, appliques, buttons, secured beads, ribbons, braids, etc.

Please don’t feel you have to be able to sew, as you can be the creative one in a team, choosing items to go on the quilt. If you have a sewing machine, please bring it along.

Please bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea will be available.

For more information please contact Bea Robertson (bea.roberston@gmail.com).

PERFECT BOOKS
SPIRITUAL BOOK OF THE MONTH
TITLE: AN OTHER KINGDOM, DEPARTING THE CONSUMER CULTURE

Authors: Walter Brueggeman, Peter Block and John McKnight.

This easy-to-read book lays out challenges and offers hope as we consider how to set aside our own personal appetite for consumerism in favour of our common life. Written by three highly regarded authors who have collaborated over the years on neighbourhood and community issues, the book invites us on a journey from our consumer culture to a culture of neighbourliness and connection. Brueggeman, a well-known theologian, Block and McKnight, both of whom have long been leaders in community development and reconciliation, offer a clear path for us to act upon personally and collectively. Perfect Books 258A Elgin St http://www.perfectbooks.ca/PB/ kindly offers St John’s parishioners a 15% discount on this book.

This Book will be used for our Book Study Thursdays in March!
