CNY Regional VEX IQ Robotics Competition

The MOST is hosting its third annual CNY Regional Vex IQ Robotics Challenge this Saturday. VEX IQ is aimed at elementary and middle school students. Here's how it works: Teams of students, with guidance from their teachers and mentors, build a robot using the VEX IQ robotics platform to solve an engineering challenge presented in the form of a game. Teams work together scoring points in Teamwork Matches and also display their robot's skills in driver controlled and autonomous Skills Challenges. Trophies are awarded to the top teams. The team registration deadline has passed, but members of the public are invited to watch. Please note, regular admission fees apply after 10:00 am.

Peppino's Neapolitan Debuts Expanded Menu
Available January 25
 
Peppino's Neapolitan will reopen next Wednesday, January 25 with an expanded lunch and dinner menu, featuring traditional Neapolitan pizza and fresh homemade pasta, complete with waiter/waitress service, and an all new full-bar and banquet space called the Pomodoro Room. 
 
The restaurant has expanded into the space adjacent to its current location at 409 South Clinton Street ( map) and increased its seating capacity to 66. A 10-person bar featuring a lineup of local crafts, signature cocktails and an extensive wine list has also been added. With the addition of the Pomodoro room, the space can host up to 75 people for a banquet or special event.
 
Peppino's Neapolitan will continue to serve its traditional lunch menu from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and then serve a new dinner menu with homemade pastas and Neapolitan pizzas using high- quality traditional ingredients such as Prosciutto Di Parma, Buffala Mozzarella, Calabrian Salami, 24-month aged Parmasiano Reggiano along with some unique toppings including Basil jam, Mikes Hot Honey, bourbon maple, bloody marry tomatoes, confit tomatoes, duck prosciutto and pistachio pesto.

Did you know that the Robert P. Kinchen Central Library has a brand new KidSpace for interactive learning? KidSpace offers a variety of engaging activities for toddlers and older children. From interactive play spaces, to cutting-edge technology, KidSpace offers creative and education opportunities for all children. 

The newest addition, READytown (pictured right), allows children to build, make believe and dress up in the hands-on village that includes a corner store, a factory and more! Stop by and explore all the activities that Central Library has for children! The Library is located at 447 South Salina Street. 

PS: This Saturday, KidSpace is hosting an Open House for children (under 12 years old) and their caregivers. Stop by between 10 am and 12 pm to check it out! 

Submit Your Application for the 2017 Emerging Leaders Program
Applications due by March 17, 2017
 
The Small Business Administration (SBA) is accepting applications for the Syracuse Emerging Leaders 2017 program. Interested business owners are encouraged to complete a Letter of Interest Form and attend the press event on Monday, February 13 at 10:00 am (location TBD). Space is limited, so if you're interested, make sure to submit your form as soon as possible.

To participate in the 2017 SBA's Emerging Leaders Initiative, the business must:
  • Be located in the Central New York Region
  • Have been established for at least three years (this curriculum is not for start-up companies)
  • Have annual revenue between $400,000 and $10 million per year
  • Have at least 1 employee besides the owner
  • Be represented by an owner of the qualified business
  • Participant must be able to commit to attending 13 training sessions and complete required homework (This is about a 100-hour commitment)
Graduates from the 2016 Emerging Leaders class include Downtown Syracuse business leaders Randy Sabourin of Metro Fitness, Jesse Daino of Recess Coffee and Andrew Schuster of Ashley McGraw Architects!
