Special Meeting of the Congregation
This Sunday at 10:15am
January 22 at 10:15am
A (brief) meeting of the congregation is called for 10:15am this Sunday January 22nd for the purpose of acting on a report of the Nominating Committee to elect elders and deacons for the next term of service. The Nominating Committee puts forward the following nominees for elder: Sarah Giese, Irene Peters, Aaron Thiese, and Brian Weiss;
and for deacon: Steve Christy, Tamae Moriyasu, Payo Troncoso, and Susan Williamson. Nominations will be accepted from the floor during the meeting, provided the person nominated has been contacted in advance and agrees to be nominated. If you are able, please stay a bit after the CE Hour or come early for 10:35 worship, as we need a quorum to vote.
Reception for Sung Joo Kim
This Sunday, January 22 after the 10:35am Service
Sung Joo Kim has served as MIPC's organist for the last year and a half, and it is with both gratitude and sadness we announce that this Sunday, January 22, will be her final Sunday at MIPC. Sung Joo expresses her appreciation for the love and support she has received from this congregation, and we will get the chance to pray for her together in worship next week and to offer our thanks and goodbyes at a reception in the courtyard following the 10:35 worship service.
Upcoming Memorial Services
A memorial service and reception for Marjorie Sutherland will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 27, at Flintoft's funeral home, 540 East Sunset Way in Issaquah.

The memorial service for Betty Mae Berman is planned for 4:00pm on Saturday, January 28, here at MIPC with a reception to follow.
Save The Date: February 12
One Service Sunday at 9:30am followed by the Annual Meeting with Brunch

Please mark your calendars for February 12. We will have one Sunday worship service at 9:30am in the Sanctuary, then move to the gym for our Annual Meeting of the congregation over brunch.
5pm Service Schedule in February
There will be No 5pm Services on Feb 5, Feb 12, or Feb 19.
Winter Art Show:
The Art of Georgia Quick
Works of visual art can act as windows through which people see the things of God as well as the world God loves from God's vantage point. As part of enriching our shared worship life, Worship & Music Ministry at MIPC will be hosting periodic art shows and is pleased for the artwork of MIPC member Georgia Quick to be the first.

Georgia writes: "Painting has been a way to draw near to God who has not always been obvious, but has always been present in my life. From my earliest memory, nature and light and color have been places of renewal and transcendence for me. Painting has been a natural blending of these elements. I hope you enjoy these images from my collection painted over the last 25 years."

The show is up in the Courtyard through February, and you're invited to take in and enjoy the art. If you are a visual artist at any level and would like information about showing one or more pieces in a future show, please contact Dan Hammer (danh@mipc.org) or Georgia Quick (georgiaquick@comcast.net).
Missions
Refugee Experience Conversations
MIPC Missions invites you to the first of a three-part series of conversations about refugee experiences. The first session is Monday, February 13 at 7 PM in the Fireside Room. Kristy Farber, Karen Jones, and Glo Ceteznik will lead us in a conversation about stories of refugees. A packet of stories will be available in the front office, so please do pick one up. Please mark your calendars for the next two gathering dates as well, March 13 and April 17.

World Relief Refugee Project, February 26 at MIPC
In addition to our 3-part series noted above, please join us for the World Relief Refugee Project. Be transformed into a refugee by visiting a simulated US Department of State interview, go to a refugee feeding station, and a medical screening clinic...all at MIPC!
Circle Sunday February 26 on your calendar from 11:45-2:30. Start in the gym with a light lunch and begin the project at 12:15. All ages are welcome from 7th grade and up. Parents, come with your kids. More details to follow.

Update on Abundance Sunday
For many years MIPC has been a faithful supporter of World Relief through our collections during Abundance Sunday. We have provided $22,000 in "shopping chits" for refugees at the Goodwill Stores over a 20 year period.

This past year Goodwill has changed their process for receiving donations for safety and efficiency reasons; and MIPC members have donated less while pitching in for multiple other charities which speak to the congregation. It is apparent that the regular Abundance Sunday donation process is not sustainable for either partners. We will stop the First Sunday van collection effectively immediately.

Thank you so much for your commitment to the previous program. It was a very successful endeavor to pass our abundance into refugee job education and new homes.

How can you still stay involved?

Donation Items: We encourage the congregation to donate items to drive-specific initiatives which will be communicated through Bridges and the MIPC webpage. In April we will be collecting items for the MIPC Rummage Sale. Unsold soft items will once again be taken to Goodwill.

Gifts of the Heart
Thank you everyone who generously contributed to the Advent Gifts of the Heart offering, totaling $12,192. With the addition of $7,500 from the Foundation given by the missions committee, we will send a check to DOXA for $19,692.
Spring Break Mexico House Building Trip
There are spots still available (Student and Adult volunteers) for our annual Spring Break Trip to Mexico. Registration ends this month, so please get your paperwork in. (For 10th-12th grade students.) Please contact Chris McLaughlin for more information, ChrisM@mipc.org

Upcoming Activities & Events

Sunday Morning Adult Education
Sundays at 9:15am, Adult A-B Classroom
The Growing in Faith Class has begun a new series on the more difficult teachings of Jesus.  It is easy to skip over these passages, but could it be that an improved understanding of them will help us to deal with difficulties in our own lives when they arise?  Come, let's study them together and find out! Meets during the CE Hour on Sunday mornings.
Present Over Perfect
Sundays at 9:15am, in the Fireside Room
In this 5-week video study, New York Times bestselling author Shauna Niequist will help us pull free from the constant pressure to perform faster, push harder, produce more and appear perfect.  She will help us find instead a life soaked in grace, rest, silence simplicity, prayer, and connection with the people who matter most to us.  Led by Rosemary Sixbey.  You don't have to attend all classes to participate.
Monday Morning Women's Bible Study
The Monday Women's Bible Study Class meets in the Fireside Room at 10:00am. We are starting a new study called "God Speaks Your Love Language" on January 23 (led by Marla Briggs).   Come join us as we study the Bible together and share our lives with one another. It is a wonderful way to begin each week.
Facilitator: Halie Dodrill, 206-236-0067 or e-mail:  halie@dodrill.net
Super Sixties
Super 60's will not be meeting in January.
Please stay tuned.
Sanctuary Flowers
The gardens have gone quiet for their winter rest; however, the desire for the visual warmth generated by flowers to grace our sanctuary continues and perhaps is enlarged with the darker days of winter. Please consider
offering a floral arrangement to honor a special occasion or just because you love what flowers do for our spirits. Sign up in the office or
contact Marilee.Ahalt@gmail.com and she will help you make it happen.
Tuesday Morning Men's Bible Study
We meet on Tuesdays at 7:00am in the Courtyard. Please contact Tim Hamp for more information (tnt@tvhkeys.com) .
