New Playgrounds at INN Family Shelters
Shelter Backyards Get a Lot of "Play"
Thanks to a generous grant awarded to The INN by the NYS Office of Children & Family Services, playtime at The INN's shelters is has a new look! The grant, that made it possible to complete necessary repairs after Super Storm Sandy, has given the youngest INN guests at the Rosa Parks INN and Edna Moran INN brand new places to play. The commercial-grade playgrounds, the same ones that are found in town and village parks, are getting plenty of use from young formerly homeless guests who come in with their families to live temporarily while their parents and guardians get assistance in finding permanent housing. According to Romona Pigford, House Coordinator at the Rosa Parks INN, the children were anxiously awaiting the completion of the project. One four-year-old boy watched patiently from his window while the playgrounds were being constructed and was thrilled to be the very first one to play on it. Making the shelters feel like home, even for a short time, is a part of treating guests with dignity and respect at The INN.
R.I.P Josephine DiBartolo Detz,
INN Supporter and Cherished Friend
Josephine and Taylor
The INN mourns the loss of a very generous supporter and friend of The INN. Our Director of Development Dorian Stern had the pleasure of getting to know her personally and professionally; and remembers Josephine in her own words:

"As the Director of Development for The INN I have the honor to meet amazing people. Three years ago I first met Josephine, a remarkable lady who turned a personal tragedy into a momentous legacy- Susan's Closet- an ongoing collection of baby items in memory of her daughter Susan and unborn grandson Gerrard. Jo is pictured here with her granddaughter Taylor, the daughter of Susan, who was raised by Josephine and her husband Robert after Susan's tragic passing. On Thursday, July 14, Josephine lost her own battle with cancer. My heart aches, the tears flow- Josephine was one in a million.
RIP dear angel Josephine."
