Alyssa's Story*
"In 2012, that's when everything happened to me. At the time he was 31 and I was 12 years old. Nobody knew except my mom. My mom loved me too much to hurt me so she just let it happen and I talked her into letting me be with him. I had my 14th birthday party, that same night my son was conceived. When my son was one month old I told my best friend the whole story. She told me that she had to call the police and that's when a detective came. That same day my brothers, sisters, my son and I were taken away from my mom.

Being at Girls Ranch has changed my life in the whole year and a half that I've been here. When I arrived my parenting skills were not so good. I soon realized that I needed to better myself as a mom and as a person. I began therapy and worked with the group home staff to learn how to care for myself and my son."

Alyssa and her son were successfully discharged from GR with completion of her self-sufficiently plan. She was a part of the GR program for nearly two years and has been reunited with a family relative. She is enrolled in high school with plans to attend a two-year cosmetology program upon graduation. Alyssa's son is happy and thriving.
