Proven Results: The First Tee Stat of the Month

At The First Tee, we don't just teach golf, we teach life skills - and we have the research and results to back it up. After three years in the program, youth at The First Tee chapters nationally reported through independent research¹:
  • 73% reported high confidence in their ability to do well academically.
  • 82% felt confident in their social skills with peers.
  • 52% credited the program for their ability to appreciate diversity.
Seeking Sponsors for the 10th Annual Taste for The First Tee

Planning is in full swing for our  10th Annual Taste for The First Tee, which will be held on Thur sday, April 27, 2017 from 6pm to 9pm at Turf Valley Resort. The event features 'tastes' of delicious foods donated by some of Howard County's best restaurants such as Alexandra's, Eggspectation, Grille 620 and Tino's Italian Bistro, to name a few.  Guests also enjoy beer and wine, live and silent auctions, and a live jazz band at Turf Valley's Grand Ballroom.

Coach's Corner: When Can My Child Move Up a L evel (Part 2: Birdie/Eagle)

At Birdie level completion, the expectation is that participants are ready to play golf on a golf course without unduly delaying groups behind them (9 holes in two hours time/13 minutes per hole), and scoring within a reasonable number of strokes (three over par per hole). This is usually the level at which our participants begin to play competitively against members of other The First Tee Chapters (e.g., The First Tee Metro Tour) or independently in Junior Golf events (AJGA, MAPGA, Ping Junior Tour, etc.), and we want them to be able to play competitively with their counterparts.   

As they complete the Eagle level, the expectation is that participants are ready to play golf on any golf course independently or in small groups, keeping up pace-of-play (18 holes in four hours time/13 minutes per hole), and returning reasonable scores (the equivalent of two strokes over par per hole). This is often the level at which our participants begin to play competitively on their high school teams, and we want them to be competitive with their peers.

In Our Sights: A Van for Chapter Transportation
