Gala Auction Donations
  donations_box.jpg
The Gala Committee is still looking for additional auction items. After the holidays there are always some
duplicate gifts or things that may not have been on the top of your wish list. Please consider giving these unused items to the Gala.  Any item, regardless of size or value, is helpful. Smaller items such as books or a game are helpful as we can pair them with other donations in a basket or use them for raffle items. You can send donations into school marked Gala.  If you have any questions you can contact Michele Robbins at [email protected].

Bruxism (Teeth Grinding or Clenching)

When you look in on your sleeping child, you want to hear the sounds of sweet dreams: easy breathing and perhaps an occasional sigh. But some parents hear the harsher sounds of gnashing and grinding teeth, called
bruxism, which is common in children.

About Bruxism

Bruxism is the medical term for the grinding of teeth or the clenching of jaws. Many children have it (2 to 3 out of every 10 will grind or clench, experts say), but most outgrow it. Bruxism often happens during deep sleep phases or when children are under stress.

Club Updates
Updates from STEM Club

Last week in STEM Club we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went outside for an engineering challenge. Our materials involved 20 pieces of spaghetti, 20 small marshmallows, three feet of tape and three feet of string. Our constraint was that each structural base must remain on the ground. Our challenge was to see which team could build the highest structure!

The marshmallow engineering challenge was fiercely competitive and showed great ingenuity and teamwork. Our 2-8 th grade members did great work and although we had some tall, unstable towers suspended to the basketball hoops (very clever!), our winner was David Doan in 7 th grade with a structurally sound tower.

We mixed it up a little for our K-1 st members and introduced 1 large marshmallow per team and toothpicks, as well as the spaghetti and mini marshmallows from above. The younger STEM members did an amazing job; one group of Kindergarten boys built a tower almost 3 feet tall! There was also an incredible amount of creativity and beauty with starburst designs, modern art sculptures and one that with a little bit of instability in the base, would "walk" along the asphalt when the wind blew.
