PTSA News
Give and help
With your help, LWHS PTSA can reach its goal of raising $21,000 this year to enrich every LW student's high school experience! For everyone who has already donated to the PTSA and submitted matching funds, thank you!! For those who haven't yet, please consider giving today, in whatever amount is comfortable. If each family gave just $25 (or 5 Starbucks Lattes), we would far exceed our goal. Just for comparison sake, Redmond High School PTSA raised $20,000 last year with their Pass the Hat campaign. Do we really want Redmond HS PTSA to outshine us?!  Please click HERE to give. Happy New Year to you all and we look forward to continuing to work with you to reach this important goal!

Fear Free practice ACT & SAT tests return

Hey Kangs!  Wondering what  the ACT or SAT are really like, or how long the test really is, or what is it like to spend a Saturday in the LW library taking a practice test?  Wonder no more! There is still time to sign up for the upcoming Fear Free ACT and SAT Practice tests: tests are  January 28 (ACT) and February 25 (SAT).  Please sign up online or submit the registration form to the PTSA box in the school office. The ACT deadline is January 24 and the SAT deadline is February 21.

If you missed the chance to take these practice tests in the fall, sign up now and use this opportunity to hone your test-taking skills in a stress-free environment! Please note: per the Princeton Review, these are the same tests that were administered in the fall.

Senior Class News
2017 Louise Sheeley Scholarship
Applications Available

Annually, the LWHS PTSA awards the Louise Sheeley Scholarship to graduating Seniors in honor of Ms. Sheeley, a former counselor. This year, the LWHS PTSA will offer four $1,000 scholarships to LWHS Seniors who exemplify the characteristics of academic excellence, service to the school and community, perseverance, and motivation toward their future goals. Students are required to submit a response that details their qualifications, along with two letters of recommendation and an accurate completion of the application. Scholarships can be used for books, tuition, or room and board at a vocational, 2-year, or 4-year college or university. If you are a graduating LWHS Senior and plan to pursue further education after high school, we encourage you to apply.  The selection process is blind. All applications are due in the Career Center by Monday, April 10, 2017 (this is the Monday after Spring Break). Seniors can pick up an application in the Career Center or on the LWHS PTSA website.

Career & Counseling Center
The end is near...finals are coming!

Dread. Anxiety. Fear. Many students experience one or a combination of these emotions when they think about semester finals. With careful planning, though, these emotions can be lessened. Preparation is the key.

Students should know what is going to be tested and how the test will be formatted. For instance, will the semester exam cover the entire semester? Will the exam be essay questions or multiple guess? If there is anything that a student doesn't understand, meeting with the teacher early is critical. This translates into reviewing for the final early and consistently. Research has shown that cramming the night before simply doesn't work. Besides, who is there at 2 am to answer questions? Review textbook notes, homework assignments, the textbook, and the teacher's lecture notes. Sometimes forming a study group is helpful. Of course, it goes without saying that students think more clearly when they eat a good breakfast and have a good night's sleep. And, finally, it's important to remember that while that semester final is important, it is the process of learning that is most important.
