Veterans Court Opens in Miami

On Friday, January 13 th, 2017, the Miami-Dade Veterans Treatment Court kicked off at the Robert Gerstein Justice Building.  Miami-Dade County Commissioners Jose "Pepe" Diaz and Sally Heyman along with Deputy Mayor Russell Benford were present for the ceremony.  Judge Tinkler Mendez and Judge Trawick will be presiding over the court that will officially be in session on January 19
th, 2017.  The MDVTC is a treatment court designed around veterans and service members in order to reduce recidivism in the justice system.

Every Third Tuesday

FedAssist  -  Representatives from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will be available to answer questions and general information to the public on a walk-in basis. Resource materials to help you study for the citizenship test will also be available.  

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) - will be providing services for low-income veteran families: Short Term Case Management, Rental Assistance, Utility Deposit/Rental Assistance, Security Deposit Assistance, Patriot Pass Assistance, Emergency Supplies, and Childcare Assistance.   

DCF/ACCESS  - 
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) will be offering their

ACCESS program - which provides the following services: Temporary Cash Assistance, Food Stamps, Medicaid, and Refugee Assistance

Every Third Thursday

DMV to Go - Every third Thursday of the month renew or replace driver's license or state ID card.

MDX-SunPa ss - Every third Thursday of the month MDX will provide all attendees with a free SunPass mini for all vehicles in their household as well as informing residents about current and future MDX projects.

Life Alliance  - Organ Recovery Agency (LAORA) will have representatives available every third Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to educate residents on how to become a registered organ and tissue donor. 

Every Month

Take the Train, Take the Test - the Florida Department of Health, Miami-Dade Transit and 3-1-1 have joined forces to offer free HIV and STD testing to the public at select Metrorail stations.






               


Enrollment for the MDX Frequent Driver Rewards Program is open until March 31.  
 
  
State Legislative Issues/Update  
The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation Friday produced the Workers' Compensation Annual Report for the 2015 market year which, despite "relative health and competitiveness" of Florida's market, spelled out uncertainty moving forward due to court cases relating to workers' comp.
