Second Sunday After Epiphany
Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light
of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word
and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's
glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the
ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with
you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and
for ever.
Amen.

EPISCOPAL YOUTH EVENT 2017:
Deadline to Apply is this Friday, January 13
EYE17: Path to Peace
The deadline for high school youth to apply as a youth representative for the Episcopal Youth Event 2017 (EYE17) Hawai'i delegation, is this Friday, January 13.
Drawing hundreds of high school youth from throughout the Episcopal Church, EYE17 will be held on July 10-14, 2017, on the campus of the
University of Central Oklahoma
in Edmond, in partnership with the
Diocese of Oklahoma
. Following EYE17, the Hawai'i delegation will be taking part in mission and community service for 3-4 days before returning home.
The theme for EYE17 is
Path to Peace,
based on Matthew 5:1-12. The
theme was developed by the EYE17 Mission Planning Team who discerned a call to focus on peacemaking and the ways each member of the Jesus Movement can pursue a path to peace
Applications should be received in the Office of the Bishop by Friday, January 13, 2017. Download the application HERE, or on the diocese's EYE webpage HERE, where more information can be found. All applications will require the signature of a parent/guardian and priest, warden or youth leader of the church. Up to 24 youth will represent the Diocese and selected delegates will be notified in early February.
Depending on the final number of youth representatives selected, adult chaperones are required to be a part of the delegation. If you are interested in applying to be an adult chaperone, you may view the requirements on the diocesan EYE17 page and download an application.
A portion of the cost will be covered by the Diocese, but the estimated balance for airfare, ground transportation, lodging, registration fees and most meals are expected to run $1,500 - $2,000 per person. If you have any questions, e-mail [email protected].

Church Resources Offered by ECF By The Rev. Cn. Alexander Graham
I want to make sure that our lay and clerical leaders throughout the diocese are familiar with the excellent resources offered by The Episcopal Church Foundation (ECF, an independent foundation dedicated to but not an official ministry of The Episcopal Church). You may be most familiar with their
Vestry Resource Guide (newly updated in 2015), which I commend to all of you.
ECF has just released their webinar schedule for the next couple of months.
The 2017 winter schedule includes webinars on vestry leadership, investment strategies for 2017, planning for the end of life, preaching and leadership, understanding congregational conflict, and more. The complete schedule can be be
found HERE.
In particular, please note the "Vestry Orientation" on February 9. This webinar will help you to understand roles, responsibilities and best practices for vestries --perfect timing as congregations throughout the diocese elect new members to their leadership teams! If you are interested in a particular webinar, sign up! Even if you can't be there "live," you will get e-mail links to the recorded sessions.

What's Happening in The Episcopal Church? Announcements from around The Episcopal Church & beyond |
Archbishop of Canterbury's New Year's Message
To view his video message and full text, click on the image at left. The text of his message begins as follows:
Recently I stood in the ruins of Coventry Cathedral, which was bombed on 14th November, 1940. On the remains of the wall behind the altar are written the words, 'Father Forgive' - echoing the words that Jesus prayed as his enemies crucified him. The day after the bombing, the Provost of the Cathedral, an extraordinary man called Dick Howard, made a commitment not to revenge but to seek forgiveness and reconciliation.
On Christmas Day that year, Provost Howard preached a sermon that was broadcast across the Empire on the BBC. In it, he called for a new and more Christ-like world after the war.
I started life as a clergyman here in Coventry. I was ordained in the new Cathedral, which was built alongside the ruins. I never imagined I'd work here, but for five years I helped lead Coventry's global ministry of reconciliation, which grew out of Dick Howard's vision and now has 200 partners for peace around the world.
