Welcome Sweeny Families

Dear Sweeny Families,

September has kicked off spectacularly at Sweeny! Our students are growing daily with their leadership and learning. In just 23 days our learners have accomplished so much from class mission statements to goals/expectations for themselves and their peers. We are so thankful that you are willing to share your kiddos with us each day!

Building School Improvement Plan

Our 2016-2017 BSIP is now finalized. This month, we would like to share with you each of our goals and how we will measure each goal.

Literacy Goal: 80% of K-5th grade students will meet or exceed standards on writing common rubrics.

This will be measured by:
*   Documentation of student growth and meeting or    exceeding standards will be kept through bi-             quarterly writing rubrics.

*  Weekly collaboration agendas will document           opportunities for enrichment and remediation.

*  NEE evaluation data, specifically in the area of       4.1-Critical thinking.

Numeracy Goal: 80% of all K-5th grade students will meet or exceed all math grade level standards.

This will be measured by:

*  Documentation of student achievement will be       kept through ongoing common assessments in         math units of instruction.

*  Weekly collaboration agendas will document           opportunities for enrichment and remediation.

*  NEE evaluation data, specifically in the area of       4.1-Critical thinking.

Attendance Goal: Students will maintain 96.25% attendance or greater throughout the 15-16 school year.

This will be measured by:

*  Attendance data will be disseminated at                    assemblies, on the building website, and through      social media.

*  Data will be placed into spreadsheets regarding        attendance concerns and interventions updated        monthly and reviewed during administrator and          counselor meetings and with specials teachers          during monthly early release meetings.

*  Daily attendance checks provided to principal by       building secretaries.

*  Leadership binders will be updated regularly with       attendance data and shared with families.

Buddy Day

Our first Leadership Buddy Day was on August 26th. We kicked off our day, by having male leaders from across the district greet us and high five us as we entered the doors with music and dancing. One student said, "This is like ONE big party!"

Throughout the day, we spent time synergizing (Habit 6)  with one another. Each classroom was partnered up with a classroom from another grade level and they will keep these partners throughout the year.

Together buddy classrooms went to our all school assembly, participated in activities in the classroom,  ate lunch together (which they handled beautifully), and go to recess. Not only are we learning more about the habits, we are building our school community by collaboration.
During this leadership day, we focused on Habit 1, which is Be Proactive. This habit revolves around self control, attitude and mood, doing the right thing even when no one is looking, and learning to "carry our own weather".

*Please note the changes in lunch time for your child on our Buddy Day that is listed above*

Our September Leadership/Buddy Day will be September 30th.

Sweeny Beautification Day
