Office Closure for MLK Day
Dear Neighbor,

A reminder - on Monday January 16th, our office will be closed in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. 

We re-open at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, January 17th.

Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is 160 years old!

Celebrate the birthday of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum at 2430 N Cannon Drive  now through Monday, January 16th. Enjoy treats, scavenger hunts, a look at rarely-seen specimens, and more!

CAPS Beats 1811 1812 & 1813

The 18th District CAPS meeting for Beats 1811, 1812 and 1813 will be today, January 12th at 6:00 PM at St. James Lutheran Church & School, 2100 N. Fremont Street.

OTTA Kid's Art Show

Join Old Town Triangle Association, 1763 N. North Park Avenue on  Sunday, January 15th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM for the first-ever Kids Gallery Show. Old Town Triangle Kids (ages 2-18) who submitted their paintings, photography, sculptures and drawings will be on hand.

These works will be on display for the Old Town Triangle Association's Annual Meeting & Dinner on Thursday, January 26th.

Polar Peace March

This Sunday, January 15th join St. Paul's Church, 2335 N. Orchard Street, in honoring Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. by taking a stand against violence. This 1.5 mile walk benefits UCAN's work for non-violence and peace in Chicago.  The celebration kicks off at 4:00 PM and concludes inside St. Paul's for hot beverages, soup, bread and cookies. You're invited to walk, raise pledges, and volunteer on the day of the event. 

If you register by Friday, January 13th you will be entered to win a $500 Target gift card. If you raise $100 you will be entered to win 4 Cubs tickets to a game at Wrigley on the 4th of July, two tickets to see the Bulls or two tickets to see the Blackhawks play.

Property Tax Appeals Deadline

The Cook County Board of Review is accepting property valuation appeals for North Township (properties south of Fullerton) until Tuesday, January 17th. There is no fee to file an appeal. Click here to download and file the form.

Christmas Tree Recycling

The City of Chicago's annual Christmas tree recycling program continues through Saturday, January 21st citywide. 

Drop off trees at corrals set up at the Peggy Notebaert Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive. Remove all holiday decorations and take trees out of any bags when placing them in the tree corrals. Wreaths or garlands are not recyclable.

LPHS Middle School Mixer


Parents of 7th and 8th graders interested in learning more about Lincoln Park High School (LPHS) should attend the  Middle School Mixer at the LPHS Freshman Building, 2001 N Orchard Street on  Friday, January 27th from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM . Come meet and ask questions of current LPHS parents and mingle with future parents like you!

Starting February 1st, 2017, remember to bring your own bag - a $.07 Chicago Checkout Bag Tax begins  on all disposable paper and plastic bags used in Chicago. R eview this flyer for information on exemptions to the Bag Tax. 

50 x 50 Neighborhood Arts Project Call for Artists

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events
have declared 2017 as the "Year of Public Art" in Chicago with a new 50x50
Neighborhood Arts Project recognizing the 50th anniversary of two iconic public art pieces-the Picasso in Daley Plaza, and the Wall of Respect which stood at 43rd Street and Langley Avenue. These symbolize the important role that public art has played in Chicago's history. For details, visit here.
