From the Desk of  Mrs. Bopp...

This is a great time of year! Throughout the remainder of the second quarter and into the third quarter, our children will be putting the skills they've been learning to good use in so many ways. Research projects, from Kindergarten to eighth grade are allowing students to hone their skills and also understand the benefits (and sometimes the challenges) of technology and the internet. Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of observing some great research activities in grade 3.

Our SAM teachers love to collaborate to create projects that will excite the children and allow the children to create and collaborate with each other. I hope you'll check out the information in the BB each week and also our social media pages to learn more about the awesome activities occurring at SAM!

Peace and Blessings,

Chris

5TH GRADE NEWS!

As we approach the second semester of fifth grade, we have seen growth and maturity with our fifth graders. We have been and will continue to work on organization and study skills as we prepare for the transition to middle school.
In the classroom, we are tackling our first novel of the year, A Year Down Yonder by: Richard Peck. This Newberry Award winning historical fiction story teaches us about life and growing up during the Great Depression. Students will be busy reading, discussing, and working on various activities that develop the story, characters, and even vocabulary enrichment. We will follow with yet another research unit on the National Parks, which connects to our recent Monument project to better prepare us for our field trips this spring. We will end the year with one more novel study.
In Religion, we continue to learn about the sacraments and their importance in our life. We continue to see Fr. Tim on a bi-weekly basis who helps us to deepen our understanding of the Catholic faith. Reviewing our Catholic Prayers is another focus as we also add on new prayers for the students to learn.
In Social Studies, students will be working on a Colonization in North America Unit and a Government and Citizenship Unit. They will also be working on their second research report, the U.S. president project. In English, we keep filling our writing portfolios with the many different types of writing assignments we are working on this year.
As we look forward to spring and better weather ahead, we also look forward to the learning yet to come!
