Dear KMS Parents,

I am looking forward to students returning to the middle school building on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 to start the 2nd semester pending the final inspection report from the industrial hygienists and the Geauga County Health Department.

Today, in anticipation of the transition, I met with students at each grade level and have communicated with teachers to let them know the plans for the new year and share details for their return to the building.  I also addressed concerns that they might have about returning to the middle school.  Please talk to your child, and if they have additional concerns they may see one of the school counselors, Ms. Lose or Ms. Lucarelli.

1.  How will student belongings be returned to the middle school?
Students will be bringing all of their belongings home before Winter Break. Teachers will work with students to make this a manageable task over the next several days. Band instruments will be brought home to allow students to practice over the holiday.

2.  How are teaching materials being returned to KMS?
Materials that teachers are not currently using are being boxed and labeled to return to the building.  Additional items needed for instruction will be packed on the last day of the semester and returned to the teacher's KMS classroom.  Teachers will have the opportunity to set up their at KMS rooms over break as needed.

3.  Can we visit the building before school starts on Wednesday, January 3rd?
Yes, you are welcome to visit the middle school on Tuesday, January 2nd between 4-6 p.m.

If you would like your child's schedule and locker combination before January 3rd, it is available by logging into the on-line Infinite Campus/Parent Portal (not using the app on your phone).

4.  Will there be a change in school transportation?
Regular bus routes and times will continue as scheduled.

5.  What is the drop-off and pick-up procedure if parents choose to drive?
Beginning at 7:15 a.m., parents can drop-off their student at the KMS gym entrance using the Snyder Road entrance.  Students are supervised in the hall until 7:35 a.m. when they are released into the building.

At 2:30 p.m., parents may pick up their student along the sidewalk by the gym and main entrance.

6.  What schedule can students expect on January 3rd?
Upon arrival, students in sixth and eighth graders will report to their 1st period class.   Seventh graders will report to their 2nd period class.

They will receive a copy of their 2nd semester schedule with locker combination and have the opportunity to return items to their lockers.
