From Dr. Powers

Dear Jones Families,
The holiday spirit is in full swing at Jones! Our winter concerts provide wonderful opportunities to showcase our students' talents. In addition to the performing arts, our Eagle athletes have demonstrated their skills, commitment, and teamwork on the hardwood, the pool, and the lanes. We are so proud to see how well all Jones kids represent their school. Jones Eagles also reflect the spirit of the holidays by showing their caring and concern for others through numerous fundraising activities.
When we return to school after winter break, there will be much to share regarding preparation for the SAT, scheduling for next year, selective enrollment, and many other important matters.
But, in the meantime, please enjoy a relaxing, joyous, and HOMEWORK FREE holiday season!
Happy Holidays!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at 773-534-8606 or
[email protected]

Annual Fund
|
We've raised over $110,000!
Please help us reach our goal of $250,000 and 100% participation.
Every
contribution makes a real difference -- $5, $50, $500 or $5000 -- 100% of your donation goes to the school and our students. We've received about 220 donations so far and we're hoping that all Jones' families representing our 1900+ students will participate. Before the year ends, please consider adding your gift to our Annual Fund.
MAKE YOUR TAX DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION TODAY! Click HERE.
The Friends of Jones Annual Fund finances the gap between the CPS budgeted amount and what it really takes to run a school of JCP 's caliber. Click here to view a list of grants made with FOJ funds over the past two school years.
Thank you for supporting our teachers, staff
and students. Happy and Healthy Holidays.
If you've already made your gift
to the
annual fund, THANK YOU!

Where does Chicago Public Schools system stand?
What do you think?
A New York Times article by
Emily Badger and Kevin Quealy asks:
"In the Chicago Public Schools system, enrollment has been declining, the budget is seldom enough ... But students here appear to learn faster than those in almost every other school system in the country, according to new data from researchers at Stanford."

Curious Jones
|
In the coming weeks, Curious Jones will highlight some of the amazing people who help make Jones an amazing place. Today:
Meet Our Librarian
Mr. Fran Feeley
Curious Jones: How long have you worked in education and how long at Jones?
Mr: Feeley: I've been working in public schools since 1991, almost all of that time in Chicago Public Schools. This is my third year at Jones. I came here after nine wonderful years teaching at Inter-American Magnet School.
CJ: What are you hobbies/interests outside of work?
Mr: Feeley: I enjoy swimming more than anything. I've sung in choirs most of my life. I love to read, which all librarians are required to say! I love to ride my bike, ski, and throw a frisbee on the beach. I see a lot of theater and movies. I enjoy travel, especially trips to beach and ski destinations. I enjoy speaking in Spanish with anybody who will indulge me, and in recent years I've become a podcast junkie.
CJ: Tell us a favorite Jones story.
Mr: Feeley: Many involve seeing Jones students perform on stage. I am amazed each time to see students in that context expressing themselves, taking risks and pushing themselves to grow. The experience of chaperoning a multiple-day choir field trip last spring was truly unforgettable.
CJ: If you could visit or live anywhere, where would it be?
Mr: Feeley: At Hollywood Beach in Chicago, which is where I live. Really. I enjoy travel and visiting other people's homes, but I'm always happy to return to my own pad.
CJ: Anything else you'd like to tell us?
Mr: Feeley:
It's amazing to have a core of parent volunteers who support the library. Not only do Jones Library parent volunteers complete valuable tasks and provide supervision to keep the library open extended hours for all our students; they also provide me genuine support and friendship. They're a fantastic group of people I'm privileged to know.
