WASHINGTON COUNTY WELCOMES NEW CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER
Jim Hovis, Director of the Office of Community Grant Management appointed Tuesday
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (December 14, 2017) - The Washington County Board of County Commissioners , would like to announce the promotion of Jim Hovis, director of the Office of Community Grant Management to Chief Operations Officer.
 
The Chief Operations Officer position was created to support the County Administrator while serving citizens, leadership and staff in a prompt and adaptable manner while streamlining project management throughout the County.
 
Hovis served for 16 years with the Maryland State Police, first in their Field Operations Bureau then in the Family Violence Unit. In 2004, he joined the County in the Gaming Commission where he rose quickly to the director position. Due to restructuring of the department, the Gaming Commission became the Office of Community Grant Management where Hovis has served as director since 2011.
 
"Jim was selected to bring over three decades of experience in state and local government to the new position,," said County Administrator Rob Slocum. "People who know Jim know that he is first and foremost interested in the success of Washington County and that he has the skill and ambition to serve our County well."
 
"I am honored to have the opportunity serve my community in this new capacity and look forward to making Washington County a great place to live, work and play," Hovis said after being appointed on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.
