Weekly Letter From Our Pastor

Christmas Invitation
The above selfie?  Here's the short version of a magical Christmas moment that happened as we were wrapping up a night of caroling at our final stop:  Dove Health Care in Barron.
With dry and raspy voices, we finally relented to the wishes of our youngest singers who'd been begging us all evening to sing, "The Twelve Days of Christmas."  Knowing we'd need a little help to get to the finish line we conscripted the audience, breaking them in to 12 separate parts.  What a blast!  From the 'eight maids a milking' to the 'nine ladies dancing' everyone in the room - singers or not - gave it their all.  Wrapping up with, "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," we packed up and headed for home.
On the way out the door, Doris (above) grabbed my hand, pulled me close and said, "This is what I was missing!  You guys are exactly what I needed to get into the Christmas spirit. I can't thank you enough for coming."
As I drove down US 53 that evening I thought about Dorises' words and how well they captured my own experience that night.  Honestly, singing my way up and down the aisles of retirement homes wasn't high on my list, yet after seeing the smiles and receiving the hugs of the many grateful residents, I realized it was what I was missing, too.  An evening of stepping away from the stresses of Christmas to serve others through Christ.
Living Water, this weekend your church is offering you a similar experience.  Saturday morning we'll be opening our doors and welcoming a few hundred people with brunch, food, clothing, songs, smiles, hugs, and a special Christmas Gift. Then, 24 hours later we will once again be swept up in the miracle of Christmas as our JAM kids present the story of Jesus' birth at a manger in Bethlehem during Sunday worship.
Here's the invitation:  come on Saturday and help with serving the brunch, distributing food, singing carols, greeting guests, washing dishes...then come again on Sunday morning and watch with delight as our littlest ministry partners welcome us into their world of Christmas wonder, anticipation and joy.
Why come, when you've probably got 1001 other things to be doing?  Here's why:  it may just be the thing you're missing.

Living for Jesus!

Living Water: Thanksgiving Bonus
This week, my coach told me that I was a good shooter in basketball.  That made me feel good.

Ruby's Pantry - Christmas Breakfast
Ruby's Pantry in December will once again have a FREE pancake/French toast breakfast served from 7:30 to 10:30am. This year's date is December 16th. We are still in need of a couple helpers for the kitchen. Please talk to Darlene Kurshinsky if you can help with this big event!
Monetary donations may also be given to help with the costs.
JAM (Jesus And Me)
Our Christmas Program is this Sunday during the 9am worship service.
Reminder: There is NO JAM Dec 24 or Dec 31. We will resume class on Jan 7, 2018.
CORE Christmas Party - Wednesday, December 20th
Our final gathering in 2017 will be a good old fashioned Christmas party, complete with a White Elephant gift exchange. Wrapped gifts may be dropped off in Pastor Ned's office any time before this Wednesday.  Wondering what makes a good W.E. gift?  Here are a few criteria that might be helpful:
  • Funny.  Funny gifts make the biggest splash at the party, but aren't always the most desirable items for swapping.
  • Weird.  Weird artwork and gadgets are also popular at Christmas gift swaps, and are often highly sought after.
  • Nice.  There's nothing wrong with buying a genuinely nice gift, especially since it has the potential to fuel a lot of competition during the game.

Children's Christmas Program Info
The Children's Christmas Program will be on Sunday, December 17th during worship.
Dress rehearsal will be Friday night, December 15th at 6:00pm. Please make every effort to attend. Children will take their costumes home Friday night after dress rehearsal. Please have them come to church dressed and ready to go Sunday morning December 17th. We will meet in the garage at 8:55am. Narrators can just wear normal concert clothes.  Questions? Ask Christine Ebner 715-296-1890
December Monthly Mission
Our December Mission will be to assist the Family House in Rice Lake. The Family House is a shelter open to anyone who is displaced from their home, this would include those who have lost their home, are homeless, are escaping abuse in any of its many forms, or who need a safe place to stay for the night. Residents stay anywhere form a night or two to a month or two.
There are up to 15 residents on any given night. They receive a hot supper (which they help cook), access to laundry equipment, a bed, shower facilities and a hot breakfast. Many may be working, seeking work or be in school during the day and they can return again at 5 pm. Each resident agrees to do chores and the Family House residents keep the place very clean.
Our December goal is to help them with some much needed supplies, bedding and a small gift for their residents. A table with tags of needed items is in Church starting this Sunday and continuing on through Christmas. We will also be collecting funds for a few larger items for their kitchen.
Thank you for your support.    -Mark Palma
Carpet Cleaning Team: 8am - Tuesday, December 26th
A big huge thanks to everyone who signed up at Clipboard Central to be on the Carpet Cleaning Team.  Moving the chairs & vacuuming the carpets for the commercial cleaning company shouldn't take more than a couple hours.  Let's meet at 8am, 12/26.  Once the carpet is dry we'll set a time to move everything back in place.  Thanks again!
Christmas Gifts Needed
We have been asked to help with Christmas gifts for three sisters in need from our community!  Along with the Family House in Rice Lake, we will provide gifts for these lovely young ladies.  Please pick up gift tags on the Christmas table, purchase the gift that is written on the tag, wrap the gift and tape the gift tag (with the initial facing up) to the top of the gift.  These gifts must be dropped off on or under the Christmas table by Thursday, December 21!  Thank you so much for helping to bring Christmas joy to those less fortunate!!

Christmas Gift: A Bible
If you're thinking of purchasing a bible for someone you this Christmas, the version we use at Living Water is the NLT:
New Living Translation.  It's a modern and faithful interpretation of the ancient biblical texts that's very easy-to-read.  Merry Christmas!

Meet the Living Water Family of the Week
Names:  Pete, Lindsey and Ellie Kolpack
Something interesting about our household:
Pete is the Agriculture teacher at Rice Lake High School and Lindsey works for Medical Staffing Solutions, Inc. also in Rice Lake.  Ellie is their 2 year old cockapoo.  Pete and Lindsey took a week-long trip to Ireland this past July and would love to tell you all about it!
How we became connected to Living Water:
We were looking for a church to join and were struggling to find 'the right fit'.  One service at Living Water was all it took for us to know it was the place we needed to be.
What we like about Living Water:
We love the realness that LW offers every individual or family that walks through its doors.  You will 'really' be welcomed as you walk in.  Coffee 'really' is available at any time.  Your 2 year-old 'really' isn't expected to sit still and be quiet.  If you're open to it, the messages 'really' do speak to you.  You 'really' are offered the opportunity to serve others through Christ.
