Distinguished Eagle Scout Award

On October 26, 2017 Bert Moyar was awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award at the Annual Heritage Society Reception. This award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work and who have shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis.
As a 65 year veteran of Scouting, Moyar has made the Boy Scouts of America an integral part of his life both personally and professionally. When his sons were in Scouts, he served in numerous leadership roles. He served as a member of the former Greater Cleveland Council Executive Board since 1993 holding many roles includingCouncil Commissioner and as Council President (2006 to 2008). He continues to serve on the new Lake Erie Council board. In 1996, he received the Silver Beaver Award. Bert was elected to the Central Region executive board (2009) and now serves on its nominating committee since 2012. In 2013 Mr. Moyar was selected as the honoree for the 2012 class of Eagle Scouts at the annual recognition dinner. Currently, he is chairing the capital improvements committee raising millions of dollars for facility upgrades to Beaumont Scout Reservation.
Bert Moyar has enjoyed a varied and distinguished career as a lawyer, executive, hotelier, financier and humanitarian. Since 1981, he has been involved in real estate development and began focusing on the hospitality industry when he formed Concord Hotels Inc. in 1985. He later founded Moyar Enterprises Inc. in 1995 and then MEI Companies with his son, David Moyar, in 1996.
Over the years, Bert’s civic and humanitarian endeavors include leadership roles at City Club of Cleveland, Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland, Meridia Health Systems, Cleveland Clinic, International Orthodox Christian Charities and Treasurer, Chairman, Board of Directors, IOCC Foundation, Baltimore, Maryland.

Beaumont Scout Reservation, Firelands Scout Reservation, and Camp Stigwandish. You can check availability of cabins, campsites, program areas, and other amenities and book the reservation with just a few clicks using a credit card or e-check. Reservations can be made for
up to 12 months in advance.

Now Accepting Silver Beaver Award Nominations
|

The
Silver Beaver Award
is the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not actively seek it.
Nominations are due December 15, 2017 and all completed forms should be emailed to Paula Swiner at paula.swiner@scouting.org.

Now Accepting District Award of Merit Nominations

The
District Award of Merit
is a council award presented by districts to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature. Nominees should have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting, outside Scouting, or both. The nature and value of “noteworthy service to youth” may consist of a single plan or decisions that contributed vitally to the lives of large numbers of youth or it may have been given to a small group over an extended period of time.

World Jamboree Registration is Now Open
|
The USA Contingent to the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019 is now accepting applications for participants, adult volunteers, and International Service Team members.
The World Scout Jamboree is the largest camping event organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, gathering as many as 50,000 Scouts and leaders from 169 National Scout Organizations. The 24th World Scout Jamboree is co-hosted by Scouts Canada, Association de Scouts de Mexico, and the Boy Scouts of America.

Wood Badge Course Registration Now Open

The primary purpose of the Wood Badge experience is simple—to strengthen Scouting in our units, districts, and council. Every scouting youth deserves a well -trained leader. Wood Badge provides dedicated Scouters with the concepts, tools, and methods needed to be effective leaders.
Attending Wood Badge will make your Scouting job easier. Attendees gain an in-depth understanding of the skills of leadership and friends! The skills you learn will help you become a more effective leader in Scouting, your career, your family, and your community life.

Calling All Aspiring Journalists and TV Person
|
|
WLEC-TV are the call letters of the Lake Erie Council's new video channel. We will produce news stories about our scouting units and camps, to inform our council and the greater community. Just like at our local TV stations, WLEC-TV will need in-studio and field reporters to deliver the news, so we are auditioning LEC Scouts to do the job. They can be Boy Scouts, Venturers, or Explorers over the age of 14, who can commit a few hours at our Unit Service Center studio twice a month, or on a central location in our Lake Erie Council.
To audition for the volunteer role of a WLEC-TV video news reporter, Lake Erie Council Scouts will need to arrive at our studio in their Class A uniform, and provide a news story script to read on a teleprompter. They can write a real scouting news story, or make one up – whatever best demonstrates their ability to present the news on camera. Or, if you want to be an on-the-scene reporter, be able to describe an event unscripted, as it's happening, while holding a microphone and answer questions from the news anchor.
This is a great opportunity to be involved in Scouting, for those interested in reporting on camera as a journalist or vlogger.
On Monday, December 5th, and Friday, December 8th, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, WLEC-TV will be hosting auditions for fresh anchors! We will launch our new station in January!

Wood Badge/NYLT Breakfast 2018

The annual Wood Badge/NYLT Breakfast will take place at Lakewood High School. Doors open at 8:30 AM and the program begins promptly at 9:30 AM. The Wood Badge trading post, supplies and gift items will be available the entire time.
