Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. in West County!
Let's honor Dr. King by coming together in service on January 16
Monday, January 16 is our federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with celebrations and service opportunities around West Contra Costa County.  (See list below.)

Dr. King's tireless struggle for civil rights and economic justice changed the world for the better. Unfortunately, we still have lots of work to do in order to achieve true equality and justice in our country.

We must continue to advance the work of Dr. King to reject intolerance, violence, hate and injustice. I'm deeply committed to working with our community in the spirit of Dr. King.

Let's start with participating in one of these MLK Day events:

January 16
  • Hosted by the Friends of the Richmond Greenway, a collaborative of local organizations. Registration and most activities will be at 20th Street and the Richmond Greenway, with volunteer service projects from 9 am to noon. Speakers will begin a program at 12:30 pm.
For more, contact Marilyn Langlois at 510-710-4493.

  • The City of El Cerrito, St. Peter Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, the El Cerrito Branch NAACP, and the West Contra Costa County Unified School District are proud to sponsor the 28th annual El Cerrito Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration.
This year's theme is: "Enhance the Dream -- Make it Real!"
PARADE: Participants should gather at the El Cerrito D.M.V. Parking Lot (6400 Manila Avenue) at 8:30 am.  Parade starts at 9:45 am. A full program at El Cerrito High School will begin promptly at 11 am. For more information, please contact event coordinator Patricia Durham at (510) 234-2518.
