This week, many families will come together in our nation to break bread, give thanks and eat good food. The next day, they'll hit shopping malls and local businesses for Black Friday sales. After the weekend, those who couldn't stomach the crowds will shop online for Cyber Monday madness.

But did you know that there's another day in this annual tradition?  It's called #GivingTuesday and since 2012, it has become the official kick off to the charitable season when so many focus their holiday and end-of-year giving to help someone else. Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday as a way to bring about real change in their communities. In North Central Florida, many of our nonprofits will join the movement and invite you to consider giving your time, your treasure, and your voice this November 29.

Here at your United Way, we invite you to help us improve the education, health and financial stability of people living in our community. Your charitable donation, leveraged by the agencies in our community who are providing direct services to those in need, will help:
  • feed local families who don't have enough food to make it through the holiday or most days of the year
  • give someone a warm bed and place to sleep instead of on the street this Christmas
  • pay someone's utility bills this winter so they don't have to choose between electricity and food

This is the time of year when we are grateful for all we have. It's also the time of year to remember someone out there who may not have much and may need your help. Please consider making #GivingTuesday part of your holiday ritual.
