"Come and See!"

Dear Members and Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,

Last Sunday in worship (and this coming Wednesday) the theme was the baptism of Jesus. We've now celebrated Jesus' birth and his baptism and this coming Sunday's preaching text picks up in the gospel of John (1:29-42).

According to John's gospel, the next day after the baptism of Jesus, John finds two of his own disciples and tells them about the Lamb of God. They meet Jesus and he immediately asks, "What are you looking for?" They then reply, "Where are you staying?" This odd response is met with a simple response by Jesus, "Come and see" (John 1:39). Then, after spending this brief time with Jesus, one of the men, Andrew, goes to his brother Simon to tell him about Jesus. In this short encounter, a chain reaction is begun and evangelism is born as people seek the Messiah and tell others about Him. Read ahead if you would like to see the verses that immediately follow this text (43-51). Philip uses that same invitation, "Come and see," to invite Nathanael to meet Jesus. Nathanael accepts the invitation and his life is changed as he meets Jesus and realizes that Jesus already knows him.

"Come and see." Such a short and simple invitation to a life that transforms.

From this story in Scripture we cannot underestimate the power of those simple three words. Has the chain reaction ended? Is it still going? Have you continued it in your life and with the enthusiasm of Andrew and Philip? Some are asking at Our Savior's how we can reach out and bring in more members? We jump quickly to lean on an evangelism committee, but in reality, we all are God's evangelism committee. It is up to each and everyone of us who call Our Savior's Lutheran their community of faith, to extend the invitation, "Come and see," to others in our schools, at our places of work, in our neighborhoods, in our families and throughout the communities we live in. If you love Our Savior's and want us to know it, experience it, and become a part of it like you and your family do and have, invite others. It's easy. Invite others and don't stop inviting. Why would we stop? We have such good news to share and such a great community of faith to learn about it and experience it within.

This coming Sunday we celebrate another baptism - little James Douglas. What a great day to invite others to "Come and see."

Blessed Epiphany!

Hospitality Team News!

The Hospitality Team is in need of a Captain to organize the ushers and greeters for the two Sunday services for the month of March. This is a wonderful way to involve your family and friends at Our Savior's that takes very little time but plays an important role in service to all. If you are interested in helping out with this important ministry, please contact Don or Charlotte Schuld.
A Day for Making Comfort

On Saturday, January 28, we will gather at Our Savior's to make comforters to go to both local and international charities. Many comforters can be completed in one day when many hands join together. The hours are from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and individuals can spend the whole day or just come for an hour or two. No experience is needed as there are lots of "jobs" for everyone as well as lots of teachers. Bars and beverages will be provided, but bring your own lunch. Everyone is invited so bring a friend or two. Join the fun!
