Applicants Sought to Fill Westland Historical Commission
REVISED
Westland, MI - The City of Westland is seeking applicants to fill the slate of vacant positions on the Westland Historical Commission.

The Historical Commission is a nine-member board appointed by the Mayor.  The Commission collects, maintains, and preserves any materials and documents relating the the history of Westland and Nankin Township.  The Commission also operates the Helen C. Brown Historical Museum at 857 N. Wayne Road.  The Commission meets on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the Helen C. Brown Historical Museum.

"As Westland just celebrated its momentous 50th anniversary year, I am encouraging all interested individuals to apply to serve on the Westland Historical Commission to help preserve the history of our All American City," commented Mayor Wild.

Westland Historic Commission members volunteer to oversee its historical building complex located at 857 N. Wayne road from 1:00 until 4:00 pm on 1-2 Saturday afternoons per month and attend one meeting per month with fellow commissioners to discuss current projects. It is free to join and does not require any specific educational background.  Interested applicants must be residents of the City of Westland.

The Westland Historical Society is also seeking society members.  The society is a 501c3 non-profit organization and does not require you to work any specific days or hours but a minimal yearly donation of $10 is required. Membership in the Society allows you to work on the project or projects of your choosing and caters to those with a busy working schedule. Members work on everything from digitizing photographs (some dating back over a century) and documents, to fixing artifacts such as our 1922 Ford Model TT Firetruck from the Eloise Hospital complex, to collecting artifacts to be placed in the new Westland time capsule, to basic maintenance and cleaning of our buildings.

With the new year comes not only new projects but also new promises. Are you looking for a way to use your skills, resources, and/or free time to keep Westland the Best Land?" commented Commission President Jeff Koslowski. "The Westland Historic Village Park is looking for volunteers of all ages for its numerous programs it has started or will soon be starting to make our city's 51st year it's best one yet!"
