Duke-Margolis Welcomes New Staff, Faculty
Duke-Margolis welcomes David Anderson, MS, and Charlene Wong, MD, MSHP, to the Center!
Anderson joins the Health Policy Evidence Hub as a Research Associate. His background is as an insurance industry professional with a specific knowledge of Medicaid risk adjustment and provider network configuration. He has over 10 years of experience in data and quality management most recently with UPMC Health Plan, a leading innovating integrated delivery system in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Wong is an adolescent medicine pediatrician and health services researcher. Her research focuses on the consumer experience with accessing health, the impact of health policy on youth and innovative strategies that leverage behavioral economics and technology to improve youth health and well-being.

Hongmai (Mai) Pham, MD, MSPH appointed Senior Research Fellow
Dr. Pham is a general internist who provided primary care at safety net organizations for many years. Prior to joining Duke-Margolis, she served as Chief Innovation Officer at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), where she was responsible for implementation of the alternative payment model provisions of the Medicare and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), and other cross-cutting initiatives for the Center.

Mark McClellan Interviewed at WISH Summit
Dr. McClellan was interviewed at the
World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), a global initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), where a team from Duke-Margolis presented policy recommendations on accountable care in the global context.

Investments in Health Yield Great Economic Benefits
Aid donors and governments of low- and middle-income countries can boost economic prosperity by investing in cost-effective health interventions, concludes a new report co-authored by researchers at Duke, the University of California, San Francisco, and Imperial College London.
The lead author is Gavin Yamey, a member of the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy and a professor of the practice of global health at the Duke Global Health Institute.
Investing in Health: The Economic Case, the report of the WISH Investing in Health Forum, was released in Doha, Qatar at the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), a global initiative of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

Drugs that Fail in Late-stage Clinical Trials: Clinical Pharmacology can Help
A recent commentary in the journal Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, co-authored by Mark McClellan, Greg Daniel, Morgan Romine and collaborators, describes six areas in which clinical pharmacology methods and frameworks can help ameliorate these trends in late-stage attrition and increase the efficiency of drug development and evaluation.

Duke-Margolis' Bass Connections course on NC Medicaid reform kicked off with a boot camp session, held December 9th. Students got to know each other and learn from an overview of Medicaid presented by Don Taylor, PhD, MPP, and an explanation of the Section 1115 waiver process from Barak Richman, PhD.
