ANNUAL CHAMBER AWARDS BANQUET
The Chamber's 41st Annual Awards Banquet will be held Friday, February 28th, 6:30 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center.

One of the highlights of the banquet is the award for Citizen of the Year for Dayton and for Liberty. This award is given to an outstanding person in the Dayton-Liberty area who unselfishly volunteers his or her time, over a long period of time, in service and kindness to others. The action - 'lifestyle' if you will - of the recipient has unknowingly been observed by others who see and realize the outstanding traits of this person. Year 2015 recipients Debbie Dugger of Liberty and Dayton Mayor Jeff Lambright will make the presentations.

Master of Ceremonies is City of Liberty Municipal Judge Mike Little.

Back by popular demand this year is our special guest from last year's banquet, humorist Chad Prather, who always brings a light-hearted look at everyday situations we're all familiar with. Chad is an entertainer and a storyteller. Through his social media humor videos, he is considered to be one of America's fastest growing public personalities (his wife, Jade, is still rolling her eyes). A sought after public entertainer and motivational speaker, Chad uses his life experiences as an athlete, a husband, a father and a traveler to coach and encourage others on their journey. He is also the host of Ride Television Network's "It's My Backyard" as well as making numerous other TV and radio appearances.

Sponsorships for the banquet are available. If you would like to be a sponsor for the event, and have your business represented, please contact the Chamber.

The banquet reservation form is attached at the end of this newsletter. Tickets are available at each Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce office - 109 S. Main Street, Dayton (936.257.8926) or 1801 Trinity Street, Liberty (936.336.5736). E-mail: [email protected] or [email protected].

CECIL MCKNIGHT
1941 - 2016
Cecil Leroy McKnight, age 75 of Devers, passed away Tuesday December 13, 2016 in Baytown. Cecil was born April 9, 1941 in Osceola, Arkansas. Cecil served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961 in the 504th Military Police Battalion where he received the rank of Corporal. During his time in the service his clearance gave him the opportunity to guard both President Eisenhower and Kennedy. Cecil had devoted much of his life to volunteering and helping others. While he helped countless members of our community, Cecil never expected recognition for his efforts. Throughout the years Cecil was a volunteer for Little League for over fifteen years as a coach. He began his service with the TRI-COUNTY MHMR in November of 1994 where he served on the board for twenty-two years, serving for two of those years as Chairman of the Board.

He also volunteered for CASA as a child advocate. Cecil was a loving, dedicated, FIERCE advocate! He was sworn in as an Advocate in January 2014 and of course he did the 30-hour training "his way" - full of humor, strength, determination and "gruff love." He was active at the Trinity Valley Exposition, a supporter, volunteer and life member of the Metro Go Texan Committee of Liberty County, a sub-committee for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, volunteered and helped raise sponsors for the Burnham Classic as well as the Invitational Golf Tournaments, and volunteered and assisted with  the Liberty-Dayton Area  Chamber of Commerce. Cecil was also a member of the School Board for Huffman ISD, had a pilot's license, and was a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge. For these efforts Cecil was awarded Citizen of the Year in 1998 by the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. If there was a fund raiser or event in the county Cecil was always there to help, unselfishly providing his time and resources to ensure others were taken care of in need.

Before his retirement, Cecil was the owner and operator of Trevor Boyce Associates which produced rubber linings. He attended the University of Houston where he studied mechanical engineering. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 17 at the funeral home with burial in Cooke Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the MHMR via www.tricountyservices.org. or to CASA at PO Box 9027, Liberty, Texas 77575.

SHERRY METTLEN
1965 - 2017
Sherry Lynn Mettlen, of Moss Hill died Tuesday January 10, 2017 at her residence with her loving family by her side.

She was 51. Sherry was born on July 27, 1965 in Corry, Pennsylvania to Glenna Scadden and Bruce Stebbins. Sherry graduated from Hull-Daisetta High School in 1984 and attended North Harris Community College. She then married her high school sweetheart, Daron Mettlen in 1985.
She began working at Carol Bond Health Foods in Liberty in 1988 as a cleaning lady making $4 an hour. By 2013 she was the proud owner of the business in which she had worked for 25 years. She worked tirelessly serving her customers and often working seven days a week. She was a passionate community leader and believed in giving back to her community. Sherry was a member of the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, a member and past president of Hardin Lions Club, a member of the Trinity River Wildlife Refuge, a driving force for the Moss Hill Cemetery fund raisers, a recipient of the Masonic community builder award, a member of the Liberty Rotary Club and Bridgehaven Children's Advocacy of Liberty.

Sherry had a huge heart when it came to her family which she lovingly gave of herself to all her family. Her special talent was her love for her nieces and nephews. There was no problem or challenge that was ever too big or too small for her to tackle. Sherry was always willing to help any family in the community who was in need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Services were held Friday, January 13 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church - Marysee of Moss Hill. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Sherry Lynn Mettlen please visit our Sympathy Store at www.faithandfamilyfuneralservices.com.
