TEN AT THE TOP 2016 YEAR IN REVIEW
2016 was a year focused on several important regional projects that will wrap up in 2017. Over the course of the year, Ten at the Top conducted 93 regional engagements with over 4,000 individuals participating. Over 390 unique Upstate businesses and organizations were represented within Ten at the Top by participating in a committee, providing funding support, or serving on the board of directors.

Since 2010, Ten at the Top has conducted 613 regional engagement with more than 30,000 total participants.

Throughout 2016, a major emphasis within many of Ten at the Top's task forces and committees was compiling inventories and creating interactive maps to help increase awareness of available services and resources in the Upstate. The Natural Beauty & Resources and Community Vibrancy Task Forces are working on interactive maps of outdoor activity and recreation areas and cultural assets, respectively.

The Senior Issues Group and Child Well-Being Network are also working to create interactive maps of services and resources for seniors, children, and families. The maps would serve as a resource for individuals looking for services, as well as a tool for service providers when referring someone to a service or organization.

During the year, Ten at the Top hosted two forums. The first forum, titled The Upstate's Untapped Workforce, focused on engaging underutilized potential employees such as veterans, individuals with nonviolent criminal backgrounds, and individuals with disabilities. The event featured keynote speaker Randy Lewis, former Senior Vice President of Logistics and Supply Chain for Walgreens. The second forum, Celebrating Successes, highlighted Upstate companies and organizations celebrating milestone anniversaries. During the event the Hughes Investments ELEVATE UPSTATE Community Vibrancy grants were also awarded.

Carrying on the Upstate Bus Tour series, Ten at the Top took Upstate business and community leaders to Pickens, Spartanburg, and Cherokee counties over the course of the year.

In March 2016, Ten at the Top hosted the inaugural regional young leaders summit called the PIQUE. The event had nearly 300 young leaders in attendance to participate in personal and professional development workshops, connect with Upstate business and community leaders, and participate in a discussion about community and regionalism. The event also featured a reception with local food and beer tastings from local breweries.

In September 2016 almost 900 Upstate business and community leaders met for the Upstate Summit: Creating a Leading Region. The event opened with a leadership panel including: Mike Baur, CEO of ScanSource; James Clements, president of Clemson University; Pamela Lackey, South Carolina President of AT&T; and Michael Riordan, President and CEO of Greenville Health System. The event included six breakout sessions focused on community vibrancy, human potential, economic and entrepreneurial vitality, natural beauty and resources, sustainable growth, and "Collaboration is the New Competition".

To wrap up the 2016 Upstate Summit, Geoff Colvin, Senior Editor at Large of Fortune magazine, spoke about a sustainable competitive advantage. His keynote talk focused on constant innovation, collaboration, and building new and high level skills.

Building on the momentum of 2016, 2017 is expected to be a year full of completed projects and meaningful connection making. Ten at the Top will continue the Our Upstate Vision Forum Series and Upstate Bus Tours into 2017.

Please visit the Ten at the Top website for information about task forces and committees, upcoming events, and how to become involved.
